Nottingham Forest have signed midfielder Gary Gardner on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.
Gardner is reunited with Forest boss Stuart Pearce, who handed the 22-year-old five caps for England Under-21's during his time in charge. He is the second signing Forest have made using their £250,000 Sky Bet Transfer Fund after also capturing Chelsea defender Todd Kane on loan from Chelsea this week. Gardner has made just five first-team starts for Villa and has just returned from a loan spell in the Championship at Brighton, scoring twice in 20 appearances. Pearce said: "We are delighted Gary has agreed to join us until the end of the season. His ability and character will be essential between now and the end of the season." Jan 13 - 6:15 PM

Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Gardner was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season but only manager four appearances. He has been the victim of numerous injuries in recent season and Villa are hoping he can stay healthy ahead. Gardner is only 21 years old and has a bright future, health permitting. He has a history of returning from injury too quickly and Villa are unlikely to rush him back from any problems he might have. He is not a reliable fantasy option and should be avoided until he can prove to stay healthy and keep a regular role.

Aston Villa have loaned Gary Gardner to Sheffied Wednesday in an attempt to get the youngster in form.

Earlier in the year Villa had loaned out Marc Albrighton for a similar amount of time. The midfielder returned fit and confident and has contributed to Villa after his return from loan. The Claret and Blue are hoping to see a similar affect with Gardner, who has suffered through injuries and lacks fitness and confidence at the moment. The initial loan period is one month but could be extended.
