The Press Association have confirmed that Georginio Wijnaldum is on his way to England to discuss personal terms with Newcastle and undertake a medical.
Wijnaldum currently plies his trade in the Eredivisie for PSV and the attacking midfielder enjoyed an excellent 2014/15 campaign which yielded 14-goals plus 3-assists from his 32 starts. Wijnaldum arrives with a reputation of being quick, a player who likes to have the ball at his feet and is able to deliver a defence splitting pass. The signing – around $21 million - is expected to spark a flurry of transfer activity as Newcastle look to complete deals on a further three players including striker Aleksandar Mitrovic [Anderlecht], Charlie Austin [QPR] and Joel Matip [Schalke 04]. Meanwhile Sammy Ameobi has completed a season long loan deal to Championship side Cardiff City. Fri, Jul 10, 2015 08:30:00 AM

Sammy Ameobi looks set to extend his stay at Newcastle before heading out on a season long loan deal with Championship side Cardiff City believed to be interested in signing the winger.

Ameobi enjoyed his best return in a United shirt last season but his 15 starts were maybe more indicative of the club’s plight – and lack of squad depth - rather than players ability. Ameobi has spent a number of years on Tyneside and very much like his brother – Shola – promised so much but ultimately failed to deliver. A loan spell to local rivals Middlesbrough back in 2013 was intended to kick start his career gaining first team experience but the player was once again confined to the reserves on his return. With only 21 BPL starts spread across 5 season’s time is running out for Ameobi and dropping down a level to guarantee himself some game time may not be such a bad move for the former England under-21.

Sammy Ameobi picked up a knock in training leading up to Newcastle United's hosting of Leicester City tomorrow, putting his availability in doubt.

Normally on the fringes of first team action, Ameobi made the most of a substitution appearance in the Magpies' last match, providing an assist for Papiss Cisse that would help secure a draw with Swansea City. Alan Pardew has already confirmed Gabriel Obertan will be one of his starting wide midfielders, so the opposite flank will likely be occupied by Yoan Gouffran.
