With both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm unavailable, Tottenham turned to Paulo Gazzaniga as their goalkeeper against Crystal Palace and it was his effort that allowed Spurs to escape with a 1-0 win.
Likely knackered after an energetic display midweek against Real Madrid, Spurs looked quite flat and lacking creative spark for most of this match. Both Harry Kane and Harry Winks picked up knocks in the first half but managed to play through, with Winks making way for Mousa Dembele to start the second half. The story of the match was the fringe keeper Gazzaniga, making his first PL start in just under two years, and he made a few top shelf saves to preserve the clean sheet, most notably a fingertip save late in the first half and a stop of a point blank header on the hour mark. It may well be the only time we see Gazzaniga in league play this season, but it was a beauty. Sun, Nov 5, 2017 08:57:00 AM

Spurs have signed Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga on a 5 year deal.

The 25 year old becomes their second signing of the summer after Davinson Sanchez was signed from Ajax for £36.5 million. Last season, Pau Lopez was at Tottenham on loan from Espanyol and he competed with Michel Vorm to be Lloris' replacement. Mauricio Pochettino has been searching to replace him since the transfer window began. Gazzaniga made 32 appearances in the Spanish Segunda Division on loan at Rayo Vallencano last season. Poch worked with Gazzaniga during his time at Southampton.

Southampton's reserve goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga may leave the club this summer on a permanent basis.

The shotstopper, who is aged just 25 and approaching his prime years for a traditional 'keeper, is wanted by a number of clubs outside of England. Rayo Vallecano, whom he represented on loan last season, are keen to bring the Argentine back to Spain meanwhile French side Nantes are also waiting in the wings. Southampton are understood to be open to both another loan deal or a permanent switch. Gazzaniga has two years to run on his current contract with the Saints, meaning that this is Southampton's best chance to demand a transfer fee for the player as his value would drop substantially once he is within 12 months of his deal expiring. The player himself is understood to be seeking first team football and is not content to stay at the club as third choice behind Forster and McCarthy.

Southampton has confirmed goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has joined Spanish side Rayo Vallecano on a season-long loan.

The move leaves the club with only one senior goalkeeper in Fraser Forster after Maarten Stekelenberg's loan ended and Kelvin Davis retired. However the club is in the market for a backup keeper. Said sporting director Les Reed: "While Harry Lewis has demonstrated his potential during the club’s pre-season camps, and we have some outstanding goalkeeping talent in the Academy, we are on the search for a new number two between the posts to compliment Fraser [Forster], and there are some interesting options on our target list."

Paulo Gazzaniga will earn another start this weekend against Aston Villa.

Ronald Koeman started Gazzaniga surprisingly in their 2-0 defeat against Leicester City last weekend, where the goalkeeper made a fatal mistake to allow the second goal. He was fairly solid outside of that goal and Koeman needs another chance to evaluate the goalkeeper. The manager explained that the reason for this is because Southampton need to make a choice on whether to sign a new goalkeeper this summer since Fraser Forster will be out for the majority of next season with a long-term injury. Kelvin Davis will start the last match, which will be his 300th for Southampton.

Filling in for the injured Artur Boruc, Paulo Gazzaniga represents great fantasy value playing at home against slumping Aston Villa.

Your outlook on this likely depends greatly on whether you feel Southampton is really on to something or whether they just started the season in great form and are now coming back to earth. Matches against the first and third place team in the table along with an unlucky break against Stoke certainly doesn't make for strong recent results but with Manchester City, Newcastle and Spurs coming up the Saints and Gazzaniga will need the home win against Villa and for the low-low price of 1, the Saints keeper represents great value.
