West Brom scored first but were undone deep into injury time in a 2-1 defeat at West Ham on Tuesday.
West Brom took the lead when James McClean's effort from 25 yards out deflected off a West Ham defender and sailed over Adrian's head into the back of the net. Ben Foster did well to keep the visitors ahead as he denied Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic, but was left helpless when Andy Carroll powerfully headed home the equalizer just before the hour mark. The Baggies had chances to retake the lead late on but paid the price for falling to cash in, as Carroll popped up to finish off a counter attack in the fourth minute of injury time. Now winless in 20 league matches, West Brom sit 19th in the table and four points from safety. Jan 2 - 5:46 PM

James McClean scored the only Albion goal in a 2-1 pre-season loss to Slavia Prague in Kumberg, Austria on Thursday.

The lone goal for Tony Pulis' side was created by healthy-again Matt Phillips who slid a through ball to McClean who converted from five yards out. Albion went into the halftime break ahead 1-0 and the manager decided to give his younger players a chance at some match action bringing in a number of youth side players for the second half. The Czech league champions were more than a match for the Albion youngsters and scored two second half goals for the final tally.

West Bromwich Albion announced winger James McClean has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract at the club.

McClean joins teammates James Morrison, Craig Gardner and, most recently, Ben Foster as the latest West Brom players to sign new deals, with an option to extend the deal for a further year beyond the summer of 2019. The Irish international has featured in 15 Premier League matches this season, recording a goal and assist. Said manager Tony Pulis: "James thoroughly deserves this and has worked hard to achieve it. James’s attitude and commitment to the group is first class and I’m delighted to see that approach rewarded in this way. For what we paid, he's been a terrific signing for us."

West Bromwich Albion could only sit back and watch as Sergio Aguero and Manchester City found their groove in a 4-0 loss at The Hawthorns.

West Brom faced an early two-goal deficit after Aguero got on the scoreboard with a brace in under 30 minutes to see off his three-match goalless drought; while manager Pep Guardiola saw his career-high six-match (in all competitions) winless streak end. Tony Pulis won't be happy with the result after signing on for another year as the club could only manage one shot on target against City. James McClean set up multiple chances down the wing in the final 15 minutes but both Salomon Rondon and Gareth McAuley saw their shots go just wide. Unfortunately for McClean, the winger will miss the club's next match due after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

James McClean took to social media after sustaining a nasty looking injury at Anfield which forced the Baggies winger off on the hour mark.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a good spell under Tony Pulis starting the last five Premier League matches as the Baggies have quietly went about their business. Prior to kick off, West Brom sat in 12th place following a run of just one defeat from their last six games and the performances of McClean have helped to secure three-points against West Ham [1 goal] and earn a share of the spoils at home to Tottenham [1 assist]. But the Republic of Ireland international was replaced in the late kick off after 65 minutes because of an injury with blood visible through his sock. Clearly unhappy, McClean posted a picture of a deep leg laceration via Instagram with the words: ‘If it was vice-versa,’ implying the referee would’ve dealt with the matter differently if a Liverpool player had suffered a similar injury. McClean will be assessed ahead of the build-up to game week ten.

West Bromwich Albion conceded in the first quarter hour to fall behind Tottenham but found an equalizer from James McClean to fight their way to a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns.

While Tottenham enjoyed the majority of possession, it was a deserved draw for the Baggies who were equals in every other facet of the game. After giving up the opener to Dele Alli, they leveled the score in the 39th minute when Darren Fletcher sent in a cross near the end line to find the head of McClean who finished strongly to beat a helpless Hugo Lloris. They got off eleven shots, but only three hit the target and just one that really challenged Lloris again. West Brom will finish where they started the gameweek in 13th position, pretty much where they are expected to be.

James McClean avoided punishment for inciting traveling Sunderland supporters on the occasion of West Brom scoring the winner in their 1-0 win over the Black Cats on Saturday.

A former Sunderland player himself, apparently McClean was particularly excited for teammate Saido Berahino to score the game's only goal to secure victory over his old team. In a shockingly honest and critical assessment of his player, Tony Pulis said that McClean "wasn't the sharpest tool in the box, and that's not disrespectful to him." If McClean doesn't take some level of offense at that then Pulis must be spot on in his assessment. Sharp or no, the FA have warned both player and club about the potential consequences of any repeat performances in the future.

WBA starters v STFC: Myhill; Gardner, McAuley, Lescott, Brunt; McClean, Fletcher ©, Morrison, McManaman; Anichebe, Berahino #wba #COYB

Hard to know exactly what's going on here with the match not available on US television. This line-up features six guys who typically play in midfield and only two recognized defenders in Lescott and McAuley. Dawson and Olsson are missing from the bench as well so it might be nothing more than rest or minor knocks causing an odd pre-season line-up.

Tony Pulis has nabbed his second Wigan winger in as many transfer windows with the acquisition of James McClean from the Latics on a three year deal with a club option for a fourth.

Tony Pulis must have thought highly of Wigan's wide play over the last couple of years because he has now imported a former Latic for each wing with McClean joining Callum McManaman at the Hawthorns. The former Sunderland left-sided midfielder enjoyed some success in the Premier League before dipping down to the Championship with Wigan. He scored 11 goals in 70 appearances for the Black Cats and 9 in 73 for Wigan. No word on how, if at all, this impacts Pulis' rumored interest in QPR's Matt Phillips.

Tony Pulis is targeting his second Wigan player this year with the Republic of Ireland winger James McClean believed to be on his way to the Hawthorns.

Pulis made Callum McManaman his first Baggies’ signing back in January - $7 million – and now McClean looks set to join his former team mate after the two sides agreed a deal believed to be in the region of $2 million. McClean does have BPL experience enjoying 2-years on Wearside, the Irishman won Player of the Year for Sunderland during his first season under Martin O’Neill but his relationship with the club soon soured following his refusal to wear a poppy [on his shirt] during remembrance weekend back in April 2013 – the only player in England to do so. The final straw came with the arrival of new coach Paolo Di Canio whom McClean described as a "dictator" and the player pushed through a $3.5 million move to the Latics at the beginning of the 2013/14 season.

Championship side Wigan are close signing James McClean after Sunderland accepted an undisclosed fee for the Republic of Ireland winger.

After an impressive debut campaign in 2011-12 McClean was extremely disappointing last season and struggled to hold down a place in the side - often not making the bench. There had been reports that Paolo Di Canio was going to give him another shot for the coming season, but after in huge influx of new midfield players at the Stadium of Light it seems the 24-year old was deemed surplus to requirements. Charis Mavrias could be the man to replace him, with Sunderland linked to the young Greek winger throughout the summer.

Greece winger Charis Mavrias is set to become Paolo Di Canio’s 10th summer signing.

Mavrias is only 19-years-old but the wide-man is highly rated in Greece and has already won two caps for the senior national side. With James McLean rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, Sunderland will need another winger in the squad and Mavrias' pace, dribbling skills and vision seem to fit the bill.

James McClean has admitted he is not sure what will happen over the summer but he is keen to stay at Sunderland.

After an impressive debut campaign in 2011-12 McClean was disappointing last season and struggled to hold down a place in the side, but it seems he wants to fight for his place at Sunderland. There is no doubt he could be a big asset for Di Canio if he can regain his form and with a lack of creative options in the side the Republic of Ireland winger may be given another chance.

The Daily Star report that Sunderland are on verge of signing Basle defensive midfielder Cabral on a four-year deal.

Cabral is out of contract in June so Sunderland would not need to pay a fee for the Swiss Under-21 star. The same article claims that Di Canio is also interested in Celtic striker Gary Hooper and could use winger James McClean in a cash-plus-player deal.
