Defender Tony Hibbert has yet to play a minute this season for Everton, but his injury nightmare could come to an end in the coming weeks as he nears full strength.
The veteran has been out since the preseason after suffering a knee injury, but Roberto Martinez said Hibbert could return after the international break: "Hibbo has had an injection just to take some pain away, but in the last three weeks he has been working with the first team, so I would expect him to be available after the international break." However, it is unlikely Hibbert will see any consistent playing time unless injuries hit the defense worse than it already has. Thu, Nov 5, 2015 06:18:00 AM

Roberto Martinez has confirmed Everton full-back Tony Hibbert will not be included in the Europa League squad to face BSC Young Boys on Thursday as the defender continues to recover from a muscular problem.

Hibbert has not featured since early December because of an ongoing calf issue which has hampered his involvement in recent seasons but the Everton boss is hopeful of a return within the near future. Martinez also confirmed Steven Pienaar [knee] and Leon Osman [foot] may get some competitive minutes following their lengthy absence and with a number of options available [plus a passage to the last-16 in the Europa almost guaranteed] the Toffees have a chance to rotate and keep players fresh ahead of Sundays’ game at the Emirates. Arouna Kone could start up front after Romelu Lukaku looked lacklustre against Leicester – the Belgium was said to be struggling with fatigue while John Stones [suspended] and Aaron Lennon [eligible] will not be considered helping to ensure they are at optimal level in game week 27.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed defender Tony Hibbert is likely to need another "couple of weeks" before the full-back can return to first team action.

Hibbert picked up a muscular problem during a training session at the beginning of December and the Everton boss confirmed in Wednesdays’ pre-match press conference that he doesn’t expect to see his player back until January with Leon Osman and Darron Gibson suffering a similar prognosis. However his absence won’t have a major impact on the team - Hibbert has only managed 8 starts over the past two-and-a-half seasons due to a culmination of injury and the emergence Seamus Coleman as one of the Premier Leagues’ best attacking full-backs.
