Middlesbrough will join Sunderland in the Championship next season after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Monday night.
Boro traveled to Chelsea knowing that anything less than a win would see them sent down on Monday but fresh off an impressive performance at the weekend, as they drew 2-2 with Manchester City. However, with their Premier League future on the line, Steve Agnew's side were thoroughly overmatched at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea began the match on the front foot, forcing a splendid save by Brad Guzan inside the opening minute, and needed just 23 minutes to take the lead. Diego Costa was first to strike, slotting a right-footed strike through the legs of Guzan, while Marcos Alonso and Nemanja Matic sealed the visitor's fate with nutmeg finishes of their own in the 34th and 64th minute. The defeat confirms relegation for Middlesbrough, who sit seven points adrift with two games remaining. Mon, May 8, 2017 05:39:00 PM

Middlesbrough remain the only side in English league football without a win during 2017 after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Arsenal on Monday.

Guzan stepped in as Victor Valdes missed out, due to a rib injury, but his presence in between the posts was not enough to earn Boro a share of the points. The American international watched helplessly as Alexis Sanchez curled a stunning free-kick in the top left corner late in the first half and, after Alvaro Negredo scored the equalizer, was unable to stop Mesut Ozil's 71st-minute close-range strike. While Guzan did deny Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain late on, Steve Agnew's side were unable to find another equalizer. The result leaves Middlesbrough six points from safety ahead of Saturday's trip to Bournemouth.

Another American will be heading home to Major League Soccer with the news that Brad Guzan will join Atlanta United.

Atlanta will be starting its first season in MLS in just a few months time, but Middlesbrough keeper Brad Guzan won't join up with the side until the Premier League season finishes this summer after signing a pre-contract agreement with the expansion side. Said Guzan: "This opportunity has arisen recently and having given it a lot of thought with my family, we feel that it is the right time for us to return to the US after 9 years in England. Although we have not been on Teesside that long, we have enjoyed our time here at a fantastic club, and I look forward to helping the team as much as possible before my departure."

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Guzan featured for the United States in both of their World Cup qualifying matches over the international break, suffering disappointing defeats to Mexico and Costa Rica.

Despite starting the match against Mexico on the bench, Guzan saw action as he was brought in to replace the injured Tim Howard. However, the 32-year-old and his country were denied a draw when Mexico legend Rafael Marquez headed home in the 89th minute to give the visitors a perfect start to qualifying. Guzan was then handed the start on Tuesday when they traveled to Costa Rica. While Guzan ended the match with five saves, his performance was overshadowed by a particularly poor game from his backline. And Costa Rica took full advantage of this, defeating the U.S. by a score of 4-0.

Middlesbrough and United State's veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan was not selected by boss Jurgen Klinsmann for his roster ahead of friendlies with Cuba and New Zealand.

Guzan, who last started for Middlesbrough against West Brom on August 28th, was left out of the USA squad along with fellow experienced goalkeeper Tim Howard. The absence of their names saw coach Jurgen Klinsmann alternatively call-up inexperienced trio Ethan Horvath, David Bingham and William Yarbrough. "Both are in different situations right now – Tim is obviously very busy with the Colorado Rapids and Brad is not getting the opportunity to play at Middlesbrough," Klinsmann said in a written statement Sunday. "It’s a perfect time to give an open window to three younger goalkeepers. That’s why we decided to leave the two older guys out and give these three youngsters a chance to prove their point. That kind of opportunity is very rare." The omission will give Guzan time to focus on his competition for playing time with Victor Valdez and prepare for Middlesbrough's next match with Watford on Saturday October 15th.

Middlesbrough are in talks to acquire American goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Guzan was part of relegated Aston Villa side and has been deemed surplus at Aston Villa. The 31-year-old still has some time left as a starting goalkeeper and would be an upgrade over anyone currently at Middlesbrough. He will be a low-tier fantasy pick if he ends up with the new-comers.

Brad Guzan, recently restored to the starting role, failed to punch to safety and saw the deflection go past him for the only goal.

Aston Villa have been shaking up the executive suite this week and it looks like they will have a season in the Championship to get the on-the-field product worked out. Guzan made the sort of mistake that has typified Villa's season. They played decently and didn't give Swansea an intentional shot on target but still managed to lose.

Nothing seems to be going right for Aston Villa after the club's latest humiliating loss, a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City's second-half scoring.

The Villa defense did well to hold City without a goal in the first half, but proceeded to concede four goals in an 18-minute stretch, including two goals from Sergio Aguero and two assists from David Silva. Brad Guzan returned for his second straight start in goal after being benched for the previous seven, but the only luck the keeper had was Sergio Aguero hitting the post on a penalty shot. Villa now sit nine points from leaving the relegation zone, which is how many points it has from wins this season, and has conceded 15 goals in the last four Prmier League matches.

Aston Villa's Brad Guzan was embarrassed in the team's 4-0 FA cup loss against Manchester City.

Guzan has been dropped from Villa's first team and hasn't played in the Premier League for a while now. Coming in relief for Mark Bunn in the FA Cup, Guzan didn't do anything to show fans he deserves a starting spot. His form has really fallen, and he isn't worth holding onto in any format.

It wasn't pretty for Brad Guzan and Aston Villa but they scratched and clawed their way to a clean sheet against the current league leaders at Villa Park in Week 12.

Guzan appeared to save one point blank Raheem Sterling header with his face to keep the clean sheet going in the second half. The USA international was also bailed out by the crossbar when Fernando had an open header in the box in stoppage time. However it was achieved, Aston Villa will celebrate a point against the top team in the league in Remi Garde's debut match in charge. The former Arsenal player helped his old team out by giving them a chance to move to the top of the league if they can get all three points in the North London Derby later today.

Brad Guzan made a strong save from a Charlie Adam long range chip but it wasn't enough as Stoke City came to Villa Park and were clearly the better team and converted that to a 1-0 away win.

It's looking grim for Aston Villa. Home matches against clubs like Stoke City, no better than mid-table themselves, should provide the opportunity to pick up at least one if not all three points. Instead, Villa were dominated even if the final score wasn't unsightly per se. Neither the defense nor the attack are particularly good and even more troubling is that they can't seem to get things together in the same week.

Both on and off the pitch, this summer's Gold Cup was mired in criticism and it ended in forgettable fashion as the United States lost the 3rd place consolation match to Panama, 1-1 (2-3 penalties).

After failing to reach the finals of this tournament for the first time in six attempts, the United States added another unwanted stat to this summer's nightmare by losing consecutive Gold Cup matches for the first time. They once again dominated the stat sheet as they did against Jamaica, and Brad Guzan bounced back in a big way, playing error-free and coming up with a couple of quality stops, but it wasn't meant to be. Now, after players speaking out about how poorly CONCACAF have managed the tournament, questions are being raised about the future of Jurgen Klinsmann. About the only memorable sight from today, outside of Clint Dempsey's goal, set up by DeAndre Yedlin, was the final appearance by DaMarcus Beasley with the Stars and Stripes.

The United States failed to defend their Gold Cup title and were left out of the final for the first time in six tournaments as Jamaica shocked them with a 1-2 win in Atlanta.

Perhaps things were too easy for the US a couple of nights ago when they simply cruised past Cuba, but they were a gear behind Jamaica from the jump and Brad Guzan looks to be the culprit of both of the goals conceded in the first half. The second of which was inexcusable as Guzan left the area with the ball in hand, setting up the free kick which the Reggae Boyz converted with aplomb. Down two at the break, Jurgen Klinsmann must have had quite the locker room speech as it was a different looking US side in the second half. Michael Bradley cut the deficit to one in the 48th minute and the onslaught continued the rest of the way, but the US simply couldnt covert any of their many chances. Its a tough pill for the US to swallow and it draws more criticism of Guzan's play in recent months, as Aston Villa set to open their season with him as their only experienced keeper option.

The United States punched their ticket to a Gold Cup semi-final appearance by mauling Cuba 6-0, with a Clint Dempsey hat trick leading the way.

After a solid but perhaps not spectacular trip through the group stage, the United States kicked it up another gear against a Cuban side that was well overmatched, most noticeable their keeper, whose play can be argued to be responsible for at least a couple of the goals. Dempsey started things with a header from a Timothy Chandler cross. Goals would follow from Gyasi Zardes and Aaron Johansson before Omar Gonzalez made it 4-0 just before half. Dempsey would grab his second goal by converting a penalty then score his tourney leading sixth goal in the 78th minute. Brad Guzan kept a relatively easy clean sheet. They await the winner of Haiti v Jamaica to learn of their semi-final opponent.
