Chuba Akpom could be side-lined until the new year if the latest report from the Independent newspaper proves to be accurate.
The 21-year-old revealed via Instagram earlier this month that he would be out for a "while" due to an unspecified back injury. There was no timeline or further details released but it now looks like Akpom may have suffered a stress fracture which will require a rest period of around two months. The news comes as a massive blow for the young striker who was hoping to build upon the experience he gained while on-loan at Hull last season to force his way into the Arsenal first-team. Akpom has 3 goals from his two starts for the Under-23s in 2016/17 and he also enjoyed a 83 minute run out in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup back in September. Chuba Akpom scored again along with debutante Rob Holding picking up a goal in Arsenal's 3-1 pre-season victory over Chivas.

Arsenal started out a bit slow and sloppy against a Chivas team that has already started their season but they came on strong for a convincing 3-1 win despite still missing many of their top stars. Young center back pairing Calum Chambers and Rob Holding teamed up on the opener with Chambers heading back for Holding to slot home. The second goal came from an impressive solo effort from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chuba Akpom powered home a Mathieu Debuchy cross for the third. Debuchy gave back a goal when he committed a late penalty that Chivas converted.

Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom will be joining teammate Isaac Hayden on loan at the KC Stadium for the 2015-16 season.

Akpom has been impressive when he has been given a chance in pre-season matches and in early round Cup matches. A move to relegated Hull City will presumably give him experience as he attempts to make the difficult leap from the Arsenal youth team to the Arsenal senior squad. The talent appears to be there but with Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud ahead of him it was always unlikely he was going to get significant playing time anywhere other than the Arsenal U21 side. Arsenal supporters will have good cause to tune in to Hull City matches this season.

Chuba Akpom scored three and Jack Wilshere scored the other and chipped in an assist as Arsenal beat a Singapore XI in their first competitive match of the pre-season.

With supporters clamoring for another forward, Chuba Akpom started the process of putting his name forward for more playing time. A Singapore XI certainly isn't Manchester United or Chelsea but he has to start somewhere and he did so in style. Jack Wilshere continued the great form that he showed for England in Euro qualifying earlier in the summer. Arsenal will take a step up in level of competition on Saturday with a match against Everton at Singapore Stadium.

England U-20 forward Chuba Akpom is set for a loan move to Nottingham Forrest for the balance of the season.

With multiple teams in the Championship chasing Akpom for the run-in, Arsene Wenger has decided that Forrest are the best place for Akpom to continue his development. The logic may be that Forrest, under FFP sanctions, likely have more playing time available than some of the other clubs that were interested in Akpom's services. Regardless of the reasons, one thing is clear and that is that Akpom wasn't likely to get much playing time with the Arsenal first team now that the collective health of the group has improved. Regular playing time for Nottingham Forrest should be a great way for the player to grow as he starts in on the new four-and-a-half year deal he signed with Arsenal in January.

The future of England youth international forward Chuba Akpom appears to be settled after there was some question as to whether he would be a free agent at the end of this season.

Arsene Wenger announced that both Akpom and Francis Coquelin have signed new deals at Arsenal. Both players have shown significant progress in recent weeks and were in the last years of their current contracts. The dual signings in addition to the January acquisition of Gabriel Paulista have sured up the Arsenal squad going into the summer allowing the club to keep any expenditures to a minimum. With Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo all out on loan it isn't unreasonable to expect Akpom to continue to get some minutes as a reserve and in cup ties. A loan to gain top flight experience next season seems like it would be in order.
