Hull would not have won last weekend against Southampton were is not for the sizeable contribution of goalkeeper David Marshall.
The Scottish goalkeeper had been under a lot of scrutiny recently having conceded 17 goals in only 6 appearances. Even though he was rarely to blame for them, the sheer volume applied the pressure to him. However, in the victory over Southampton, Marshall showed all the qualities he showed for Cardiff years ago in the league, making 6 saves. Three of those were particularly difficult but he was up to the task. This should put the doubts about whether Eldin Jakupovic should actually be the starting shotstopper and copperfasten Marshall's grip on his place in the starting XI. Mon, Nov 7, 2016 07:37:00 AM

Hull City's thin backroom staff just got even thinner with the news that goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh has left the club.

Walsh, who had been at the KCOM Stadium for five years has opted to move on to rejoin former Hull manager Steve Bruce in his new job at Championship side Aston Villa. This leaves manager Mike Phelan as the only senior member of the coaching staff who oversaw last season's promotion back to the top flight.

Hull City have signed Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall on a three year deal.

The Scotland international has signed for the Yorkshire club for an undisclosed fee. Marshall is expected to compete with current shot-stopper Eldin Jakupovic for a place in the starting line-up. Last seasons starting 'keeper Allan McGregor is sidelined with a long term back injury and won't feature again until 2017. Marshall spent 7 years at Welsh club Cardiff City, and was one of their longest serving players. At 31, he has plenty to offer Hull and Fantasy Managers, who will remember his time in the Premier League a few years back fondly for his high save points at a cheap price.

Arsenal have reportedly offered relegated Cardiff City £6m for goalkeeper David Marshall which the club have rejected.

Arsenal are in need of a reserve goalkeeper who can push Wojciech Szczesny and play significant minutes in the Premier League should Szczesny be injured, suspended, or fail to continue his maturation. It is hard to judge goalkeepers who play for bad teams because they face so many great scoring opportunities but Marshall kept Cardiff City in matches they had no business being close in. This is likely to give a club a strong reason to believe that Marshall would be a strong number two playing behind the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Reports indicate that Arsenal are interested in relegated Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall as a replacement for out-of-contract Lukasz Fabianski.

With Wojciech Szczesny seemingly entrenched as the #1 at Arsenal and #2 Lukasz Fabianski out of contract and in demand after a successful FA Cup run Arsenal are in the market for a second choice goalkeeper. David Marshall played above the level of his team on a number of occasions and this might be the 29-year old's best chance to play on a bigger stage. He will have to decide if he is more interested in being the #1 for a mid-table team in need of a new goalkeeper or if he would be satisfied as a reserve on a Champions League squad. Tough call but he'd be a great veteran option for Arsenal if they do land him.

David Marshall made one brilliant save after another and kept Cardiff City in the game, but a late Everton goal would spoil the day for the Bluebirds in a 2-1 loss.

Everton were absolutely assaulting the Cardiff goal during the first half, but Marshall made three superb saves and positioned himself well to frustrate the Toffees. Everton finally broke through in the 59th minute, but Cardiff would equalize 10 minutes later as Peter Whittingham would send a free kick into the area, and Juan Cala was able to deflect it in off of his thigh for his first ever Premier League goal. It was a very unfortunate outcome from a side that fought hard, but it is magnified even more by the fact that every other club in the bottom five of the table picked up points today.

Cardiff City's defending left little to be desired, leaving plenty of space for Hull City to run all over them, as they drop all the points in a game they desperately needed points from.

Fantasy managers who looked to David Marshall as a potential budget option at keeper were slapped with a -10 score, but there was little Marshall could do about the shoddy defending in front of him. The absence of Gary Medel was felt, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put his confidence back in Fabio by starting him, which looked to be a mistake, as the Brazilian and Andrew Taylor were consistently burned on the flanks. Cardiff host Fulham two weeks from now, a nice matchup in a gameweek with eight clubs not playing, but it will be difficult to feel confident about getting any returns from their players after seeing this performance.

David Marshall made several jaw-dropping saves to keep Aston Villa off the score sheet, and his heroic efforts resulted in a point for Cardiff City as they played to a goalless draw.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer switched out each of his fullbacks and their defense responded with their first clean sheet since mid December. It was Marshall that made it happen though, with six big saves, including one off a Fabian Delph laser, and another robbing Andreas Weimann from point blank range. Cardiff host Hull City next, so their normally inexpensive defensive options could make for a nice spot start.

David Marshall came up with seven important saves as Cardiff were holding on to a 2-0 lead but conceded two goals at the end of the game.

Marshall was impressive and would have finished with 24 fantasy points if Sunderland didn't score the two late goals. The second goal was very unlucky for Marshall as the ball was deflected from one of his defenders and there was nothing the keeper could do. Cardiff's poor defense prevents Marshall from being a top fantasy goalkeeper even in favorable match ups.

Cardiff City managed to secure a point on the road, playing to a 0-0 draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

David Marshall was the hero of the day, making one exceptional save after another, which should make for a monster fantasy haul. Currently listed as having 10 saves along with the clean sheet, he should be climbing the keeper ranks this weekend. Currently priced at 5.16m, he could come into consideration given a good matchup.

Cardiff City, eager to harden their defense in front of David Marshall and give impetus to their attack, are chasing Southampton target Victor Wanyama.

Rumor has it that the Saints negotiations with the Celtic star have stalled over personal terms and Cardiff are looking to step in and steal the player from the south coast team. This would be a great statement of intent from Cardiff who featured one of the better defenses in the Championship last season and this move would certainly help continue that trend into the Premier League. By shielding the back four with a player linked to Manchester United and Arsenal at various times Cardiff's chances of staying up would improve significantly.
