Liverpool have released Kolo Toure after deciding not to offer the veteran center back a contract extension.
The Reds apparently offered the 35-year-old Ivory Coast international a coaching position but Toure feels he still has what it takes to compete and will look to latch on with another club as a free agent. Toure saw more playing time than expected this past season as Liverpool dealt with several injury woes at the center back position, with Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho sidelined at one point or another. Toure's Liverpool career came to a respectable end as he got to start in the Europa League final. Joe Gomez, who began last season at left back, will continue to develop at his more natural center back position and buffer Toure's departure. Jun 11 - 5:31 AM

Kolo Toure is a doubt for Liverpool ahead of their derby clash with Everton tomorrow evening as the defender tries to shake off a muscle cramp picked up against AFC Bournemouth over the weekend.

Toure was removed in the win over the Cherries on 66 minutes, with Mamadou Sakho coming in to finish off the game. Toure was one of several players named in the XI over the weekend who are normally not first choice, with the manager clearly resting his key players for the upcoming derby. With that being the case, if if Toure were fit for tomorrow, there is almost no chance he will start again. Sakho and Dejan Lovren, both stars in the amazing come-from-behind win over Borussia Dortmund last week, will be the center back pairing against the Toffees in all likelihood.

With an injury crisis at center back, Liverpool might be able to have two experienced players fit enough to start against Arsenal on Wednesday in Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho.

Jurgen Klopp indicated in his press conference today that he thinks Kolo Toure will be available but is not as optimistic about Sakho, though he still leave the door open for the latter to have a chance. Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren are definitely out of the picture, so if Sakho is deemed unfit, Klopp will have to Tiago Ilori who recently was recalled from his loan spell at Aston Villa. Whatever combination at center back Klopp has to roll with, it looks a tantalizing fixture from a fantasy perspective for Arsenal's attacking players.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure got the start in the Reds Capitol One Cup match against AFC Bournemouth, but had to exit early with a hamstring injury.

The most peripheral of figures for LFC, Toure got a rare opportunity for pitch time in last night's cup tie and pulled up lame a half hour into the match. Martin Skrtel came on to replace him. The injury has no fantasy impact at all - there hasn't been any fantasy value to the defender for years now. What it does signal is perhaps his career, now at 34 years of age, is coming to an unceremonious close. When you get injured like this in the rare chances of playing and are in one's mid-30s, your PL playing days are usually numbered. Perhaps if he still has the drive to play another season, a league like MLS may give him a look.

Kolo Toure has signed a one-year contract extension with Liverpool Football Club.

Toure showed every bit of his age of 34 at times during his first year with the Reds but Brendan Rodgers must see the appeal in keeping the veteran around as a backup for next season. Considering how poorly Liverpool looked defensively in their final two games, there should be plenty of competition for a spot in next year's back line. However, it would likely take an injury to someone else for Kolo to return to regular playing time at this stage.

Brendan Rodgers has reported that "Kolo is with our physiologists and is working well. He should be available for Monday."

What role Toure will play remains to be seen. If he is ready to start the match, he could be an option on the right as cover for the injured Glen Johnson.

Kolo Toure was stretchered off the pitch ten minutes into extra time of Liverpool's League Cup match against Notts County.

At the time it was tied 2-2, but Daniel Sturridge scored his second goal soon after to make it 3-2. Liverpool will go into this weekend's match against Manchester United with only Daniel Agger and Andre Wisdom as recognized center backs.

Kolo Toure signed a contract today with Liverpool, finalized a long-known about transfer.

Toure will bring experience and depth to the Liverpool defence. He started more games than expected last season for Manchester City after leap-frogging Joleon Lescott in the pecking order, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him line-up alongside Daniel Agger at the start of this season. However, he's not a long-term answer at the position.

In a widely reported move, Kolo Toure will join Liverpool when his contract with Manchester City expires on July 1.

Toure will add depth and experience to a Liverpool defence that lost Jamie Carragher to retirement, and may have Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates move on this summer.

Kolo Toure, who is out-of-contract next month, looks set for a move to Liverpool. He will have a medical with the club after he returns from Manchester City's United States tour.

Liverpool need to replace the retiring Jamie Carragher, and don't seem to trust their other center back options. Toure surely isn't in-line for a long-term role, but will give them depth and experience in Carragher's absence.
