Crystal Palace has given up on signing QPR striker Charlie Austin, but their pre-season squad gives clues as to how they will line-up this season…
Palace chairman Steve Parish has told TalkSPORT that he is resigned to losing out in their bid to sign Charlie Austin, expecting him to go to a bigger PL club. ‘There are a lot of clubs interested in him [so] there’s a good chance he will go beyond us’, he told the radio station’s Sports Bar show. But boss Alan Pardew’s 25-man squad for their pre-season tour of South Africa offers some insight into next season’s team. Forgotten man Jonny Williams is included. The 21-year-old midfielder has spent the last season and a half on loan at Ipswich, but makes the cut along with winger Chung-yong Lee. The South Korean joined from Bolton in January but has only featured once so far. Highly rated youngsters Sullay Kaikai (midfield) and Christian Scales (defender) have also been included. Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams says Swansea City are interested in him.

Williams is highly rated and has been capped by Wales, but is yet to start for the first team under Tony Pulis. The 20-year-old signed a new deal at Selhurst Park back in January and spent some time out on loan towards the end of the season, but has started voicing his frustrations. "I spoke to my agent who says [Swansea] were interested," said Williams. "I need to play football, preferably at Palace, but if not I'd have to consider playing elsewhere."

Ipswich Town are set sign Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams on a month's loan.

Williams is highly rated and has been capped by Wales, but is yet to start for the first team under Tony Pulis since returning from a bad ankle ligament injury, so a loan move until the end of the season makes sense for all parties. The 20-year old signed a contract extension in January, suggesting he is being earmarked for the future by the Eagles.

Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams has signed a contract extension which commits him to the club until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Williams is highly rated and has been capped by Wales, but is yet to start for the first team under Tony Pulis since returning from a bad ankle ligament injury. However, the 20-year old has made nine appearances from the bench and the fact he has signed this extension (likely to have been accompanied by a pay-rise) suggests he is being earmarked for the future by the Eagles.

Jonny Williams could be out for up to four weeks after being injured while on international duty with Wales in Macedonia.

This is bad news for Wales and Williams, but will have less of an impact for Palace. The young midfielder is tipped for a bright future, but Ian Holloway has numerous alternatives to play in the attacking midfield role during his absence. New signings Jimmy Kebe, Adlene Guedioura, Jason Puncheon, Jerome Thomas and Elliot Grandin are all capable of taking up a position behind the main strikers.

Crystal Palace Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Spanish youngster Jose Campana.

20-year-old Campana made 20 appearances for Sevilla last season and impressed for the Spain squad that reached this summer's Under-20s World Cup quarter-finals. The little Spaniard describes himself as "a typical Spanish midfielder - I like to keep the ball, to have good distribution and I like to move forward and score goals." He's likely to provide competition to attacking midfielders Jonathan Williams and Owen Garvin once he has settled in England.

Crystal Palace are to sign Spain Under-20s international Jose Campana from Sevilla, according to the Spanish club's president.

For a fee of under £2million, this really will be a fine bit of business by Palace. 20-year-old Campana made 20 appearances for Sevilla last season and impressed for the Spain squad that reached this summer's Under-20s World Cup quarter-finals. The little Spaniard (who stands at just 5ft 6 inches) is comfortable in possession, is a terrific passer of the ball and is likely to slot straight in to the centre of the Palace midfield once he's adjusted to the change of pace and physicality of English football.
