After some suspect goalkeeping last week against Manchester City, Tim Howard deserved Man of the Match for keeping Tottenham out and gifting a dormant Everton attack a point in a 0-0 final.
Everton were bossed by Spurs in possession throughout the day and hardly gave Hugo Lloris much to worry about as Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley looked short on ideas for the second consecutive week. The defending was suspect too, perhaps a result of lack of depth at the position and having played in a midweek cup tie that went to extra time. Lucky for them, Howard had his best performance of the young season, making several crucial saves and showing his reaction time is still sharp. Roberto Martinez has been wondering seemingly forever about the future of his defense with or without John Stones, but he may want to focus some energy on improving the attack as well before the window closes. Everton's confidence from a very positive Week 2 showing took a hit after losing 0-2 at home to a tough Manchester City side.

The Toffees played to a goalless first half with Manchester City and provided the Sky Blues with their toughest competition thus far in the early going. A Romelu Lukaku goal that would have given them the advantage was waived off by a very close offside call. They seemed to tire as a team down the stretch though as City would score twice in the final half hour, with at least of the goal arguably needing to be stopped by Tim Howard. Howard is coming off a poor season and the Toffees can ill-afford to witness his demise if indeed his form has hit a career wall. If John Stones is lured away without an adequate and Leighton Baines' spot isn't given attention, the defense could be a right mess for some time.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard’s Everton future has been thrown into doubt after the club make an enquiry about Burnley’s Tom Heaton…

Just a few weeks after Roberto Martinez saying that the goalkeeping area was the one ‘line’ of his team he was happy with and not looking to strengthen, Everton have made an approach for Burnley’s Tom Heaton. Tim Howard was a star of the 2014 World Cup for the US and has been an outstanding servant at Goodison as he enters his testimonial (10th) year. But last season was perhaps his least consistent. The 50 goals conceded was a full 10 more than in any of the previous three seasons and the ten clean sheets five down on the year before. This is not all down to Howard, of course. But the news that his ex’wife has now returned to the United States with their children will create further uncertainty. Heaton was one of Burnley’s star performers despite their relegation. And would relish the chance to follow his team-mate Danny Ings to Merseyside, albeit the blue side.

Manager Martinez looks to strengthen all three areas of the team, but the stats say the defence is the area that needs to improve.

Roberto Martinez is looking to add a ‘player per line’ this summer – defence, midfield and attack - but his goalkeepers are safe, despite perhaps Tm Howard’s least consistent season in an Everton shirt. Last season’s total of ten clean sheets was five down on the previous season and Everton’s worst for the last four. More strikingly, the 50 goals conceded was at least ten more than the previous three outings (39, 40 and 40 respectively). In front of Howard, the departing Sylvain Distin’s partnership with Phil Jagielka was key to recent success – and leaves big boots to fill for young John Stones. In front of them, Gareth Barry’s biggest contribution was in cards – his 10 yellows and 1 red was the 4th worst in the PL. And these positions look to be the most pressing matters for Martinez.

Everton were stunned at home today by Sunderland, who scored twice on deflected goals to beat the Toffees, 0-2.

It looked like a promising fixture on paper for the Toffees as they entered the day in fine home form, keeping four consecutive clean sheets. It will be a disappointment for investors in their defense though as lady luck was exclusively on the side of Sunderland in this one. Those that invested in Tim Howard are in for a for a forgettable score as he only made one save in the process. To make matters worse, Leighton Baines had to limp off early with an injury that could jeopardize the remainder of his season.

Tim Howard is fully fit according to Roberto Martinez and one would expect for the veteran to reclaim his spot back straight away, but with an away match against Chelsea on the docket, there is no reason to invest in him yet.

It has to be said that Howard was not having a very good season before his injury and Robles has actually been a better fantasy producer from a per-game average than Howard in his time minding the net. It may make the most since to let Howard make the bench for this round. Everton have a slim shot at getting a positive result at the Bridge, as is the case for just about any visiting club. By sticking with Robles one more week, it rewards the backup for his contribution but will make it easier to switch back to Howard for the next round if the Blues put up a crooked score. Either way, monitor Howard over the next few rounds and pick him up while his price is dirt cheap, just 3.09m currently in Yahoo.

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is expected to miss five to six weeks with a calf injury.

The American goalkeeper was injured during Boxing Day in a match against Stoke and had to be taken off at halftime. His calf issue is now expected to cost him five to six weeks and Joel Robles becomes an option in deeper fantasy leagues.

American goalkeeper Tim Howard suffered an injury during the team's Boxing Day match against Stoke and was replaced at halftime.

Howard conceded from a questionable penalty earlier in the match and thus ends the day with a bad fantasy score. We don't know much about the injury other than he couldn't continue and we'll have to wait until the end of the match to hear more. Howard was replaced by backup Joel Robles, who could be a solid fantasy choice if the American misses time.

Tim Howard has improved after an extremely rough start to the season.

Everton's defense in front of Howard was horrible early in the season and there wasn't much the USA goalkeeper could do to save them. As a return, he started the season poorly, but he has since improved due to the noticeable improvement in his defense. He earned seven point last weekend, a solid outing despite not having a single gave. The points came from a tie and a clean sheet. His price is very acceptable since he only has seven points on the season, but he is now a solid choice against teams in the lower half of the table.

Tim Howard put in a historic performance for the US Men's National Team in a close 2-1 loss to Belgium.

Howard had a record setting performance, recording 16 saves, the most ever in recorded World Cup history. The United States defense was poor today, allowing Belgium to take an incredible number of shots, many of which were on goal. Tim Howard was named the man of the match despite the loss. He was the best player on the pitch and deserves a lot of credit. The US team should walk away from the World Cup proudly, as they outperformed all expectations.

The United States lost 0-1 to Germany but escape the Group of Death on goal difference thanks to Portugal's win over Ghana.

That gust of wind you may have felt just before 2pm EST was the collective breath of US fans after a nervy 90 minutes. Once again, it was up to the defense to bend but not break, and other than a superb strike from Thomas Muller, that is exactly what they did. Omar Gonzalez and Tim Howard particularly came up big to keep the Germans from busting the match wide open. The US now have the 2nd seed and await to see who will win Group H, most likely Belgium, to know their Round of 16 opponent.

USA XI: Howard; Johnson, Gonzalez, Besler, Beasley; Beckerman, Jones; Zusi, Bradley, Davis; Dempsey

Geoff Cameron and Alejandro Bedoya give way to Omar Gonzalez and Brad Davis. Cameron's poor clearance that gifted Portugal their first goal may have caused him to lose his place while Bedoya had little influence in his last start as Davis provides some experience.

Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Geoff Cameron and Jozy Altidore will comprise the Premier League contingent on the US Men's National Team this summer in Brazil.

With two American Premier League players - Howard and Altidore - locked in to starting roles and Aston Villa's Brad Guzan behind Howard, the only real question for the USMNT Premier League group is what role Stoke's Geoff Cameron will play. The versatile defender could start or play a key reserve role at either center back (his preferred position) or right back (where he started regularly for the Potters). They will be joined by former PLers Clint Dempsey (ex-Fulham and Spurs), Demarcus Beasley (ex-Manchester City) and Michael Bradley (ex-Villa).

Everton have signed goalkeeper, Tim Howard, for an additional two years. The US shot-stopper will now be at the club through 2017.

Everton's defence has surprisingly improved under Roberto Martinez, and Tim Howard has been a big part of that. He's now been rewarded with a new deal and should play out his prime years with the Toffees.

Chelsea scored the game's only goal in added time, when a free kick landed in front of Tim Howard and the US international deflected it in, slapping him with an own goal in a tough 1-0 defeat for Everton.

A very bitter ending to an otherwise fantastic performance from Howard. The goal came from a Frank Lampard free kick that was sent into the box, when it appeared to the naked eye that John Terry slid in between defenders to get the scoring touch, but upon review, Terry never contacted the ball, and it actually got a piece of Howard before trickling in. Everton were expecting to see Lacina Traore start, but he came up limp in the warm-ups and was a late scratch. The Toffee defense looked solid despite the loss, and Howard's unfortunate scoreline today should at least see his price in fantasy dip to a very attractive figure.
