Carlton Cole has been released by West Ham for the second time.
Cole was let go by the Hammers in 2013 but returned to the club a few months later. The 31 year old striker is not the player he once was and it's unlikely he can find a home in the Premier League, at least not as a starter. He scored three goals in 26 matches last season, which isn't good enough in this league. Avoid Cole in all formats next year. Sat, May 30, 2015 01:35:00 AM

Carlton Cole is available to face Sunderland this weekend after recovering from an injury.

Cole likely won't be fit enough to start and is doubtful to be included in the starting XI. An appearance off the bench is much more likely, but that means his fantasy value will likely be capped. He is not worth owning in any leagues at this point in time.

New signing Nene will be working double training sessions this week in an effort to get himself fit after West Ham lost Carlton Cole to a hamstring injury during the closing moments of Sundays' game at White Hart Lane.

Cole will have a scan on Monday but Sam Allardyce is expecting the striker to be out for at least 2/3 weeks and with Andy Carroll now ruled out for the season the Hammers are looking a little lightweight up front. With only Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho fit West Ham need back-up during this crucial period especially since the latter has been struggling with an ongoing back complaint. However the arrival of Nene could help to ease the pressure having joined on Wednesday – the Brazilian was a free agent following his release from Qatari club AL Gharafa SC but is lacking match-fitness as his last competitive match was back in December.

There has been very little improvement in West Ham's attack this season as they struggled to score in a 3-1 loss to Southampton.

West Ham were horrific in attack once again today after giving us some hope last weekend. It's been a on/off affair with this team this season, which is a slight improvement from the constant dull of last year. The good news is that Mauro Zarate has shown some promise, Stewart Downing has played better, and Enner Valencia is expected to return in week four. We are hopeful for more improvement with Valencia back but we are skeptical of a Sam Allardyce team performing well in attack.

West Ham have moved to bolster their forward ranks with a move for Argentinean forward Mauro Zarate.

A bit of a footballing vagabond, Zarate has suited up for Birmingham, Lazio, Inter, and Velez Sarsfield over the past six seasons. His longest spell was with Lazio where he scored 12 goals in 68 appearances - not exactly the sort of record that is going to fire the Hammers back into the top half. The expectation is that Zarate will be a reserve behind Andy Carroll and whomever else the Hammers recruit this summer.

Carlton Cole is a doubt for West Ham's clash with Southampton due to a bad back.

West Ham are once again short on strikers as Marco Borriello is injured and Andy Carroll is still out with a suspension. Kevin Nolan might be forced to lead the line for the Hammers if Carlton Cole can't go. I feel good investing in Southampton defenders for this match.

Carlton Cole has signed an 18-month contract with West Ham United and will remain with the club.

Cole has had an interesting experience with the Hammers. He has been one of their main strikers for several years but was let go in the summer. He was then called back for a tryout once the Hammers found out they needed some sort of attacking power, was rejected for being out of shaped, and called back again a few weeks later. Cole has returned to form as of late but remains a poor fantasy options with the return of Andy Carroll.

West Ham United got back on the right track after a week in which they were defeated by a combined 11-0 between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City in cup play, travelling to Cardiff and defeating the Bluebirds 0-2.

Cole scored what proved to be the game winner thanks to an assist from Matt Jarvis in the 42nd minute. West Ham suffered yet another injury in their defense, as Guy Demel had to be replaced after suffering what is reported to be a broken elbow, along with injuries to his face, early in the match. The patchwork backline was fit for the challenge however as Cardiff could not find an answer in their attack. Mark Noble chipped in with a late goal to put the game to bed, his first from open play in over four years. Sam Allardyce had been on the hot seat after the previous two disasters but he and the Hammers can look to build off today's win as they host Newcastle next.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed that the team is in negotiations with Carlton Cole to extend his contract with the Club.

Allardyce: "We've got that [Cole extension] in mind and are talking about that as quickly as we possibly can because obviously it needs to be addressed. Carlton will be dealt with very shortly." The 30-year-old's current deal is set to expire on January 13. Cole has scored three times for the Hammers this season (against Fulham, Manchester United and Arsenal) since getting his first minutes with the team on October 27 - and twice in his last four appearances.

After a goalless first half, Carlton Cole put West Ham ahead early in the second, but the Hammers could not contain Arsenal in the final half hour, and they were eventually disposed of 1-3.

With West Ham hurting at the striker position, Cole delivered his 2nd goal in as many appearances, scoring as a sub in their previous encounter with Manchester United. Today, Wojciech Szczesny mishandled a Kevin Nolan shot and Cole was there to capitalize on the mistake. A decent home fixture with West Brom is up next and while Cole has had a bit of a renaissance, it would be hard to recommend him as a top 3 forward option on any occasion.

West Ham's difficult season continued with a 3-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Much blame has been put on the Hammers lack of a forward. That they lost at Old Trafford is no surprise but Carlton Cole's goal underscores how negligent the club was in not signing him earlier as a replacement for the injured Andy Carroll. Big Sam may pay for the delay with his job.

West Ham United likely sealed Martin Jol's fate as Fulham manager with a 3-0 win over the Cottagers at the Boleyn Ground today.

Mohamed Diame, Carlton Cole, and then Joe Cole were on target for the Hammers as they compounded Fulham's misery. The goal outburst was also important for West Ham who had been in a goal scoring rut in recent weeks. The match also saw the return of Carlton Cole (and any center forward really) to the West Ham starting line-up. The hope for Sam Allardyce's men will be that they can continue scoring when the competition gets better.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has decided to start mainly backups for the club's League Cup match today against Burnley.

Carlton Cole will get his first start since he's returned to West Ham and could earn himself a start in the Premier League if he performs well today. Cole has been getting match fit and it seems he has finally reached a level good enough to start. These are the West Ham starting eleven: Adrian; Tomkins, Taylor, O'Brien; Diame, J.Cole, Potts, Ruddock, Chambers; Maiga, C.Cole.

Carlton Cole has returned to West Ham until 13 January 2014.

West Ham have struggled offensively and are missing the injured Andy Carroll. They've signed Carlton Cole temporarily to give them an offensive boost while Carroll returns from injury. Look for Cole to take some time getting back to match fitness before having an impact.

Carlton Cole could get another chance to return to West Ham as they desperately need a striker.

Cole was supposed to get a short term contract earlier this season but he failed his fitness test and the contract fell through. He has now been told that he may be able to get a contract if he performs well in a friendly. West Ham are playing Charlton Athletic next Thursday and that could be Cole's chance for a contract. The Hammers have been horrible in attack and need any help they can get.
