Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hinted that Andreas Christensen could once again cede his starting spot to Gary Cahill.
The Danish international has only played once in the last three Premier League matches and Conte suggested that Cahill is more deserving of the start, although didn't say if Antonio Rudiger will maintain his spot given that he is open to rotating the squad. Said the manager: "I have opportunities to make rotations with the three defenders, and try to make the best decision game by game. Christensen is having an important season, his first for Chelsea with this pressure. Now it’s right to give the opportunity to Gary to play more. He is deserving this." Apr 27 - 11:04 AM

Chelsea face the possibility of being without Andreas Christensen for Sunday's London derby with Tottenham.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Antonio Conte revealed Christensen will be monitored ahead of the clash with Spurs after he was sent home from international duty with Denmark due to fatigue. Should the 21-year-old fail to recover in time for Sunday's match, then club captain Gary Cahill could start in defense with Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger. However, Conte confirmed that David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu are both ruled out through injury. "David Luiz is out, at least for around another three weeks,’ said Conte. "The solution would be to play Cahill in the middle but we will try to recover Christensen. Ampadu is injured and unavailable for the rest of the season."

Denmark manager Age Hareide confirmed Andreas Christensen has been sent home from international duty because of fatigue.

Christensen has featured regularly for Antonio Conte' side this season since dropping David Luiz in from the starting XI in early November. The 21-year-old linked up with the Denmark squad for their friendly matches against Chile and Sweden over the international break, but has been sent back to London over fitness concerns. "Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London," Hareide said. "We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue." While the news will be a concern for Conte, Christensen will have a week to recover ahead of Chelsea's next match - at home against Tottenham on April 1.

Andreas Christensen looks set for a spell on the sidelines after limping off during the home defeat by Bournemouth.

The Chelsea defender was replaced due to an apparent muscle injury on the half hour mark which was later confirmed by manager Antonio Conte. "I think this is a hamstring problem for Christensen, but I don’t know the extent of his injury," he said post-match. "We have to wait one day, two days, three days to have a clinical examination." Chelsea travel to Vicarage Road on Monday, and despite the additional recovery days, Christensen will not feature if subsequent tests reveal muscle fibre damage. His absence is likely to hand Antonio Rüdiger a recall after David Luiz sustained a training ground injury during the build-up to the FA Cup fourth-round tie with Newcastle. "I don’t know, because he had a problem in his ankle," Conte replied to questions about the Brazilians progress. "Today he started the training session with the physical coach."

For the third consecutive game, Christensen did not complete 90 minutes for Chelsea as he was taken off for Antonio Rüdiger in the 27th minute of Chelsea's 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

Christensen pulled up lame after making a pass before coming off. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time but expect Rüdiger to start in Christensen’s absence.

Andreas Christensen has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with Chelsea.

The 21-year-old Denmark international, whose new contract will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2-22, has been rewarded after establishing himself as an important member of Antonio Conte's first team this season. The defender returned from two seasons on loan at German club Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and has made 22 appearances so far Chelsea, becoming a regular starter in place of David Luiz. Christensen, who has 13 caps for Denmark, said: "It feels really good to sign a new contract and I’m just happy to be committed to Chelsea for the future. I’ve played a lot of games, I’m enjoying it at the club and everything is working well."

Andreas Christensen is expected to be available for Chelsea when Stoke City visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte confirmed in his post-match press conference on Tuesday that the Denmark central defender missed the Boxing Day victory over Brighton due to illness. Christensen has been a mainstay in defense since early-November, starting the last nine matches prior to missing out on GW20. Christensen will likely return to the starting XI if fit for the visit of West Brom, while his absence would afford Antonio Rudiger another start alongside Cahill and Azpilicueta.

Andreas Christensen will join Borussia Monchengladbach on a season-long loan.

The defender progressed into Chelsea's first team last season and has made big strides as a player. As with every other prospect, Chelsea are sending him out on loan so he can earn valuable playing time and experience. Christensen will likely be a starter at Borussia Monchengladbach and can even earn experience in the Champions League. This is a great move for all sides involved.

Andreas Christensen is expected to play for Chelsea during their summer tour in an attempt to earn a senior-team spot in the coming year.

Christensen is a highly rated center-back and was recently linked to a move to Sunderland. His agent has denied the rumors, saying the defender will play for Chelsea during the summer tour. Chelsea have a big need at center-back, as they have no capable backup for John Terry and Gary Cahill. Christensen could prove to be that backup if he proves he can be trusted during the summer matches.
