Stewart Downing was very active in his first Premier League match of the season and finished with 13 fantasy points for the week.
Downing was able to put in four successful crosses and win a corner on top of putting two shots on target for West Ham. He was a creative spark that was missing last season at West Ham, so it's hard to tell if he's improved this season or this was just a one game performance. At £ 10.85M, there is potential for him to become fantasy relevant, but avoid him until he proves he can contribute on a regular basis. Aug 17 - 12:57 PM

Stewart Downing played a part in both of West Ham United's goals as the Hammers used a man advantage to help squash Tottenham 2-0.

Downing was in vintage form today and deserves plaudits for his performance, reminiscent of his time at Aston Villa. The first goal originated when Downing broke free and charged into the box only to be taken down by Younes Kaboul, who was summarily sent off. The free kick was saved but before Spurs could regain possession, Harry Kane gifted the Hammers an own goal. Then near the end of the first half, another free kick was awarded, which Downing took and scored with, as the Spurs' wall broke apart to let the ball through. Downing also delivered several crosses throughout the day. The Hammers wrap up their season next week when they travel to the Etihad.

Steward Downing has been improving since his return from injury and has increased his fantasy score every week since his return in week 20.

The good news here is that Downing has shown he is back to full match fitness by playing all 90 minutes in West Ham's last three Premier League matches. His points have come from successful crosses and defensive stats and he seems to be benefitting from the return of Andy Carroll. With that being said, he is still not at the point where he can be trusted week in and week out so I would avoid him until further notice.

Stewart Downing continues to be out with an achilles injury and will miss West Ham's clash against Arsenal.

Downing is being missed by West Ham and the team continues to struggle in attack. The return of Kevin Nolan should help them in midfield but Downing needs to return sooner rather than later. Defender James Tomkins will be available for selection despite his arrest last week.

Stewart Downing was injured during West Ham's match at Liverpool and the midfielder will miss at least a couple of weeks.

Downing required twelve stitches to his Achilles heel and will have to be out of training until it fully heals. He will be missed as West Ham have now entered the relegation battle and need all the help they can get. With Kevin Nolan out with a suspension, West Ham may be rushed to bring Andy Carroll back onto the pitch.

West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing started in place of Joe Cole in today's game at Newcastle.

Downing's start ended with a 0-0 draw at Newcastle but Hammer's boss Sam Allardyce was disappointed at the number of missed chances. Downing, Modibo Maiga, and Kevin Nolan all wasted good scoring opportunities and Allardyce didn't miss the chance to criticize. Allardyce also commented that despite the missed chances, it was nice to win a point away from home. Joe Cole came on to replace Downing around the hour mark.

After months of "will he/won't he", Stewart Downing completed a transfer to West Ham United for around 5 million pounds.

West Ham have now signed Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing for less than half of what Liverpool paid for the pair two years ago. Much has been written about the misguided "Moneyball" approach that landed the pair on Merseyside, and it remains to be seen how West Ham expect better results from the same combination.

London club West Ham United are pursuing a £6m deal for Liverpool winger Steward Downing.

Liverpool acquired the midfielder from Aston Villa for £20m, so they would be taking a huge loss on him. Downing just wasn't a good match for Liverpool and many question his skills. £6m is not that huge of an investment for West Ham, so the Hammers shouldn't be afraid to give him a shot and see if he can improve on his form.

Downing is quoted by LiverpoolFC.tv as saying, "I'm here to stay. I'm enjoying it, especially last season when I got a good run in the team. Hopefully that will continue, and I need to work hard."

While this is an optimistic view, Liverpool's investment in Spanish duo Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto cast doubt over Downing's role in the first team. However, a transfer for the winger may not materialize just yet.

Stewart Downing has been linked to West Ham, but West Ham coach Neil McDonald dismissed it as "all paper talk at the moment".

Downing has been linked with the move to West Ham following his Liverpool teammate, Andy Carroll's transfer to the Hammers. Downing was brought to Liverpool to provide service for Carroll and West Ham has been accused of wanted to repeat the strategy despite it's lack of success on Merseyside.

Pending a medical, Liverpool have agreed to a 8-million pound move for Celta Vigo for forward Iago Aspas.

The 25-year old forward can play anywhere across the front line, and will bolster Liverpool's attack for next season. He'll be competing with the likes of Luis Suarez (if he stays with the club), Fabio Borini, and Daniel Sturridge for a starting role. But perhaps most under threat would be Stewart Downing's place in a first-choice Liverpool side.
