Stoke City will be heading down and one of the concerning things about their plans for Week 38 is that they don't have any kids to play in advance of a season in the Championship.
One of the many criticisms of Stoke City's approach to squad building in recent years is their inability to develop players at the youth level. They have picked off the occasional younger player from a bigger club who wasn't going to make it to the first team at Manchester United like Ryan Shawcross. They have also identified the occasional up-and-comer from the Championship like Jack Butland but their own academy has produced very little. As they face a season (or more) in the Championship and the likely defection of veterans like Xherdan Shaqiri, Peter Crouch, Butland, Bruno Martins Indi, and the like on higher wages, the lack of promising young players to fill the gaps inexpensively will become a higher profile issue. Aston Villa have confirmed that Tim Sherwood will be the club's next manager as they try to pull themselves out of the relegation zone.

Linked with a number of openings during the season, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is headed to Villa Park to give managing a Premier League team a second try. His Spurs tenure was a mixed bag but even that seems like it should be a significant improvement on what Villa have been getting from Paul Lambert for the last season and a half.

Aston Villa have parted ways with manager Paul Lambert in the midst of a relegation battle, the club website has announced.

This on is a bit of a shocker despite Aston Villa's poor run as of late. Paul Lambert has been less than good this season in charge of Villa, but he just signed a new contract in September that runs until June 2018. Despite the large amount of money owed to him, there wasn't enough of an incentive to keep him around and the Villa board have decided to part ways. Aston Villa scored their first Premier League goal since December 20th this Saturday and have lost five straight league matches. Lambert has had to deal with a number of injuries, especially to his strikers in Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak, but going almost three months without scoring a goal in the Premier League is unacceptable and Villa will now be looking for a new manager.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has signed an extension with the club that will take him through June of 2018.

That was quick. Three games and seven points into the season and Paul Lambert has landed a new contract. There's a lot to consider here. First, Paul Lambert kept his team in the Premier League last year even though his two top strikers were injured for long periods of time. He has also kept them very competitive this season and has generally exceeded experts' projections. The bad part is that Lambert hasn't made any good moves during the transfer windows but a big part of that has been his lack of funds. Overall, Lambert is on the same level as Villa, mediocre.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is once again limited to a very strict budget this summer.

Paul Lambert is reportedly limited to spending £10million on new signings this summer. The Villa manager has been under a lot of pressure to perform well but hasn't been given the funds to make that a reality. He has been blamed more often than not, even though the few good players Villa own have been injured often. The tight budget has led to the signings of Joe Cole and Philippe Senderos, both of whom are mediocre and past their prime.

Aston Villa have released assistant manager Ian Culverhouse after an internal investigation.

Culverhouse was accused of bullying staff members and was suspended earlier in the year. He has now been dismissed from the club and Paul Lambert will have to find a new assistant. Backup goalkeeper Shay Given was appointed for the job temporarily but it's unknown if he will be assigned the job permanently or if he will look to continue his playing career at age 38.
