Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola looks set to take over the reins of crisis club Hull City after the Football Association of Wales [FAW] rebuffed an approach to lure Chris Coleman to the KCOM Stadium as a replacement for Steve Bruce.
The East Yorkshire side will kick off their Premier League campaign against the current champions Leicester City on August 13 and the omens don’t look good for Hull who are yet to sign a player during the transfer window. Steve Bruce quit after missing out on three transfer targets, while the Tigers have a mounting injury list which includes Alex Bruce who could miss up-to six months after undergoing surgery to remedy an Achilles problem. Hull will be hoping that the likes of Jake Livermore, Tom Huddlestone, Harry Maguire and Shaun Maloney can all recover in time for game week one as actions off the field threaten to derail Hull’s season before it has even started. Alex Bruce, Steve Bruce and the entire Bruce family have been relegated after a final day draw with Manchester United.

Hull City needed a win and a Newcastle draw to stay up. Instead they got a draw and a Newcastle win meaning they will be relegated. Hull City supporters will be frustrated that they couldn't even manage a goal in their effort to stay up...even after Marouane Fellaini was sent off in the 77th minute.

Alex Bruce has a severely broken nose that has him at risk of missing Hull City's trip to Selhurst Park in Week 34.

A nose that looks like it has been through a sausage grinder seems like something of a family birthright in the Bruce family and Alex is keeping up the family tradition after suffering a severely broken nose. The injury may keep him out of Hull City's Week 34 trip to Selhurst Park. The uncertainty makes Bruce even less desirable as a fantasy option and he wasn't going to be in strong demand anyway given the match-up and Hull City's recent form.

Hull City remain hopeful that defender Alex Bruce will be ready for action in game week 23 after failing to re-appear for the second half at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday.

Bruce adds to an ever-growing injury list after suffering from a thigh strain although the initial reports suggest that the pull is only minor with a projected absence of between 2-4 weeks. With nine players currently unavailable due to injury or illness Steve Bruce will welcome the opportunity for a much-needed rest this weekend and the chance to heal his walking wounded having fell at the first FA Cup hurdle losing 2-0 at the Emirates in the third round. Alex Bruce is one of four defenders hampered by injury with Liam Rosenior and James Chester currently out long-term while Andrew Robertson could be back in early February.

Alex Bruce deputized for the injured Michael Dawson to great effect in the Week 9 nil-nil draw with Liverpool.

The arrival of Michael Dawson has limited Alex Bruce's opportunities to start this season. With Dawson out of the starting line-up for a spell, Alex Bruce took the opportunity to contribute to a surprise clean sheet against a usually potent Liverpool attack. The manager's son blocked three shots, intercepted four passes and won a tackle for the cause. Dawson may still be out for a while longer but Bruce isn't likely to repeat this performance often given Hull City's recent defensive effort.
