Ghana have been eliminated from the World Cup after losing to Portugal 2-1.
Ghana started off in horrible fashion by scoring an own goal on themselves after a failed clearance. They went on to equalize the game but a late Cristiano Ronaldo goal saw their dream of going through to the next round vanish. Ghana's team was without Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng after the two were suspended from the squad. Muntari was suspended for a confrontation with a Ghana Football Association official while Boateng was shouting verbal assaults to the team's coach. Thu, Jun 26, 2014 02:13:00 PM

Ghana Starting XI vs Portugal: Dauda, Afful, Mensah, Boye, Asamoah, Rabiu, Badu, Atsu, Ayew, Waris, Gyan.

Michael Essien is on the bench once again as Ghana takes on Portugal in a must win game. Both Ghana and Portugal need a win to advance, but they'd also need a USA loss to Germany and they'd need to make up the goal differential.

Michael Essien came off the bench and played poorly in Ghana's 1-2 loss to the US Men's National Team.

Ghana took on a tactic of crossing the ball often and it didn't work very well against the tall back-line of the US team. Essien didn't do much once he came on and had a few poor shots towards goal. Ghana are now extremely unlikely to make it to the next round as they have 0 points and have to face Portugal and Germany next.

Ghana Starting XI: Kwarasey, Opare, Asamoah, Mensah, Boye, Rabiu, Atsu, Muntari, J. Ayew, Gyan A. Ayew

Ghana are missing Michael Essien and Kevin Prince Boateng through injury as they face the US Men's National Team in Brazil. This is a huge blow for Ghana as both are main contributors for the African side. This is a great chance for the US team to come in a take an important three points before matches against Portugal and Germany.

Chelsea and AC Milan have agreed on a deal to send Michael Essien to the Italian club.

The deal is subject to a medical and on an agreement between the club and the player for personal terms. Essien hasn't played much this season under Jose Mourinho as the manager has had younger and more in form players to choose from. This is a good deal for all sides as Milan can use Essien's help and the midfielder will be able to get meaningful playing time in Italy.

Michael Essien will return from suspension for yellow card accumulation.

Essien missed the Arsenal game but will be available for selection for Boxing Day. There is a good chance he features at some point in time during the game since Jose Mourinho will probably shuffle his lineup and provide some rest ahead of an important game against Liverpool over the weekend.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien was named the captain during Chelsea's Capital One Cup match against Swindon.

Essien has had a rough start to the year as he hasn't featured in the Premier League and was left out of Chelsea's Champions League squad for the season. Mourinho gave him the nod against Swindon and captained him, surprising many with the decision. Essien impressed in the game and could get the start on Saturday with injuries to Ramires and Marco Van Ginkel. I still wouldn't trust him in fantasy as he hasn't played in the Premier League yet and Mourinho is completely unpredictable.

Chelsea are reported to be interested in Real Madrid defensive midfielder Sami Khedira for a fee of €18m.

Khedira would be a good fit at Chelsea and would be the favorite to start at defensive midfielder. Mourinho has played with two defensive midfielders quite often and it would be interesting to see Khedira start alongside Michael Essien. Chelsea need to be aggressive as other clubs are also interested in the German's services.

Michael Essien has joined his team Chelsea on the club's Asia tour.

Many different speculations have surfaced about Essien's future. The midfielder is well liked by Mourinho, who loaned him at Real Madrid last season, so it seems he will definitely remain with the club this year. If Essien stays healthy, he should be able to earn a starting spot in Mourinho's lineup.
