Norwich City have made room on their roster for new forward signings by loaning under-performing Ricky van Wolfswinkle to Real Betis for a season.
It hasn't gone well for van Wolfswinkle since his debut goal in the Premier League in the 2013-14 season. He was loaned out to St. Etienne last season and didn't fare much better there. He will now try his luck in Spain with Real Betis. You have to think that Alex Neil and company have pretty much given up on the player given their need for a forward. Mon, Aug 31, 2015 07:29:00 PM

Ricky van Wolfswinkel hadn't scored for the Canaries since his debut two seasons ago but he scored late to give the club a 2-1 Capital One Cup win over Rochdale.

To say that the Dutch forward has been a massive disappointment would be understating things in a big way. After a dismal first season at Carrow Road he was shipped off to St. Etienne in France for last season where he was equally uninspiring. It certainly doesn't redeem his first two years but he and Alex Neil will be happy that he came through on this day as he put the Canaries through to the third round of the Capital One Cup after Jonny Howson opened the scoring for Norwich City.

Norwich boss Alex Neil is stepping up his search for a striker, making an approach for Italian club Cesena’s Gregoire Defrel…

Following the successful signing of Robbie Brady – YES! It’s done! Possibly the most drawn-out negotiations in the history of professional football, has ended in a £7m fee and three-year deal for the former Hull winger. Norwich are now on the lookout for a striker, with Frenchman Gregoire Defrel taking the eye. The 24-year-old hitman was score nine goals in Serie A last season despite his team Cesena going down. So far Bologna, Palermo and Sassuolo (no, me neither) has placed bids – thought to be around £5m – but according to reports in Italy, Norwich now head the queue. Southampton and Everton are keeping tabs on the situation but Norwich’s need is arguably greater, with PL flops Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Gary Hooper and the untried Lewis Grabban their only alternative to Cameron Jerome.

Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is close to a return to Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £3.8 million…

After the disappointing news that winger Robbie Brady will not be arriving (yet, anyway) because Hull are asking for too much money. Norwich fans will be cheered by the news that their misfiring front man Ricky van Wolfswinkel is going. Reports in Holland suggest he is on the brink of rejoining Sporting Lisbon for a fee in the region on £3.8 million. His record of 54 goals in 119 matches persuaded Norwich to pay a club record £8.5m in 2013, with fans hoping the Dutch International would be another van Basten or a van Nistelrooy. But after a goal scoring debut, he quickly looked more like a van driver – failing to hit the net in his following 24 appearances. He spent last season on loan at St-Etienne, scoring five times (in 24 matches) but not enough to earn a permanent deal. Or another stab at the PL with Norwich.

Norwich City are edging closer to the relegation zone after allowing their five point table lead to Fulham dwindle down to two as the Cottagers handed the Canaries yet another road defeat, 1-0.

Norwich had opportunities aplenty but timely Fulham defending and a tough outing for Ricky van Wolfswinkel led to their demise. van Wolfswinkel was at the end of their best chance, firing a volley from point blank range, but Fulham keeper David Stockdale somehow blocked it in time. Later, on another good buildup, van Wolfswinkel had the ball in space out wide, just outside the box, and layed a pass no one. van Wolfswinkel has been a huge disappointment for the Canaries this season, scoring only once, all the way back on opening day. They are two points above the relegation zone, but their final four opponents are Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Ouch.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is, at long last, over his toe injury, and has been named in the provisional squad that will play at Sunderland this weekend.

The striker has been out for months, and Gary Hooper has made the starting forward role his own now. Regardless, the Canaries will be happy to have their record-signing available.
