Swansea City have agree to send midfielder Jose Canas to La Liga side Espanyol on a free transfer.
The Spanish defensive midfielder heads back to La Liga after just a year spent in the Premier League. Current boss Garry Monk did not have plans for him and with former manager Michael Laudrup having signed him originally on a free transfer, the experiment didn't hurt the club financially, but moving him does take some wages off the ledger. The heavy Spanish influence that permeated through South Wales when the Swans were promoted a few years back has essentially dwindled down to just Angel Rangel and Jordi Amat. Jose Canas was subbed off after 17 minutes of action against Manchester United with what is being reported as ankle ligament damage, and the midfielder will await test results Wednesday to see how long it will be until he can return.

At this point, it may make more sense to point out who isn't injured for the Swans as Michael Laudrup is being put to the test to stretch his dwindling squad. With European competition, a busy festive period and a bevy of injuries, Swansea are reeling in the league right now and are in need a fitness boost or a quick signing during the window to try and put a band aid on things. Laudrup already announced that Ki Sung-Yueng would not be recalled from his loan spell with Sunderland, but with another midfield man down, he may need to reconsider.
