Leandro Bacuna has signed a new five-year deal with Aston Villa.
The defender/midfielder has played 180 minutes in two matches this season and is clearly the first-choice right-back for Tim Sherwood. He gives Aston Villa a good attacking option from the back and defends competently. The biggest knock on his fantasy value is that he is considered a midfielder by most fantasy games and that disqualifies him from getting a clean sheet bonus. Due to that, he has fairly low fantasy value. Aug 20 - 9:06 PM

Leandro Bacuna and Matthew Lowton seem to be the preferred wing-backs for new Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood.

Alan Hutton was left out of the squad last weekend and Aly Cissokho is still dealing with an injury, so it has been up to Bacuna and Lowton to get the job done. They've been great for Sherwood, and he seems to be impressed enough to keep them starting even with Hutton and Cissokho returning to full fitness. Bacuna has a decent fantasy value due to his attacking abilities but it's worth noting he's a midfielder in the Yahoo! game so he does not qualify for a clean sheet bonus.

Aston Villa defeated Leicester City 2-1 in the FA Cup on Sunday, advancing to the next round.

Aston Villa were managed by interim head coach Scott Marshall as they away Tim Sherwood to take over the managerial role. They looked better than they have in the past two months, but that's not saying much as they had hit an all time low. The good news was that they were able to score twice, with goals coming from Leandro Bacuna and Scott Sinclair. We wouldn't advise investing in any Aston Villa players at the moment, unless you can buy Christian Benteke for extremely cheap.

Leandro Bacuna scored Aston Villa's only goal in their 2-1 loss to Everton.

Bacuna has played well lately and he deserved his goal. It was assisted by Christian Benteke, who disappointed fantasy managers despite his assist. Benteke finished with an assist and two fouls committed for a combined two fantasy points. Aston Villa play West Ham next and the Hammers have kept two clean sheets in a row, so I would avoid any Villa players.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has praised the play of Leandro Bacuna after Bacuna's fatal error that ended up with a West Brom goal.

Bacuna's back pass was intercepted by Shane Long, who then scored his second goal of the night to put West Brom up 2-0. Bacuna responded well with an excellent second half and has earned the praise of his manager. It seems the mistake won't lead to Bacuna getting benched and he should continue starting for Villa. He has 29 fantasy points in his last two games. Aston Villa face Sunderland next and Bacuna takes most of their free kicks.

Leandro Bacuna said he won't start a fight with Christian Benteke over who takes Aston Villa's penalties but would enjoy the responsibility.

Leandro Bacuna has taken some spectacular free kicks for Aston Villa this year and has experience taking penalties for Holland, establishing himself as a dead ball specialist. With Christian Benteke struggling and missing a penalty against Everton, don't be surprised to see a change of penalty duty at Villa Park. If Bacuna was given the responsibility, his fantasy appeal would increase.

Aston Villa and Cardiff City were locked up in a goalless battle for the first 75 minutes of the match, but a foul on Leandro Bacuna set up a free kick which he converted himself and proved to be the game winner as Aston Villa prevailed 2-0.

From about 25 yards out, Bacuna managed to dip a curling shot over the wall and past a flat footed David Marshall. Bacuna is difficult to envision as a legit fantasy prospect as he is classified in reverse out-of-position. A midfielder in the Yahoo game, he has been a nailed on full back for quite some time. Without the benefit of clean sheet points thrown in, Bacuna rates as a poor man's Seamus Coleman. Still, 2 goals and an assist from a midfielder costing under 8m is nothing to ignore.
