Fernando Torres returned from injury last weekend but struggled to make an impact despite looking healthy.
Torres has struggled with injuries all season and has never really found any sort of form. What's worse is, Samuel Eto'o has played well recently and seems to be the preferred choice at the moment in the bigger games. Torres is fantasy irrelevant at the moment. Mar 21 - 1:19 PM

Jose Mourinho confirmed the initial report that Fernando Torres will miss a couple of weeks with his groin injury.

Mourinho also added that the next couple of games will be a choice between Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba. With the way Eto'o has been playing, I would expect him to start Chelsea's next game, with Ba possibly coming off the bench again. Chelsea forwards have been rotated a lot this season and all make for a fairly poor fantasy choice. Midfielder Eden Hazard, who is classified as a forward in the Yahoo game, is the only one guaranteed to start and produce fantasy value.

Fernando Torres hurt his groin during warm-ups and was pulled out of Chelsea's match against Tottenham on Saturday.

Torres is expected to miss a couple of weeks with his groin and Samuel Eto'o is his most likely replacement. Eto'o replaced him against Tottenham and played well. Demba Ba came off the bench and scored two goals but Eto'o is the clear favorite to start next week. Torres has struggled with injuries all season long and that has prevented him from getting in any type of rhythm.

Fernando Torres is set for a recall against West Brom but it's uncertain if he will start.

Fernando Torres will return to Chelsea's squad after missing a few weeks with a knee injury. Samuel Eto'o has played well in his absence so it's unknown whether Torres will start. The most likely scenario is an appearance off the bench.

Fernando Torres is set to miss Chelsea's clash with Newcastle but is targeting a return against West Brom on Tuesday.

Torres has already returned to training but he won't be fit enough for Saturday and Chelsea have enough depth to afford not to risk him. Samuel Eto'o has played admirably during his absence but the two are likely going to be in some sort of timeshare once the Spaniard returns. That decreases both of their fantasy values and makes them a risky play most weeks.
Feb 7 - 11:20 AM

Fernando Torres has been ruled out for at least a month with left knee ligament damage.

The exact extent of the injury is unknown but Jose Mourinho said Torres will miss at least a month. This is a huge blow for the striker as he had just picked up steam and been a big part of the club in recent weeks. During his absence, expect to see a lot more of Samuel Eto'o and some of Demba Ba. Eto'o's value increases drastically.
Jan 19 - 3:52 PM

Fernando Torres has been enjoying his recent success and Jose Mourinho believes he will be an important part of their title run.

Torres has scored in his last two Premier League games and Mourinho is happy with the striker's overall performance. Torres hasn't played up to expectations in the past two years but has shown flashes of his old self at times and if he can remain healthy, he is certainly capable of being a force.

Chelsea took care of business in Southampton and left with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Chelsea once again struggled to convert their chances in the first half, but second half strikes from Fernando Torres, Oscar, and Willian were more than enough to give them the three points. Chelsea leave Southampton in third place but looked great during the congested holiday season and will feel good being only two points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Fernando Torres started but failed to score again and Jose Mourinho was disappointed at his team's failure to convert chances.

Mourinho said that "Schurrle, Mata and Hazard played very well but we don't score enough goals". Schurrle scored twice while Mata and Hazard did indeed play well and create chances. Juan Mata has started three games in a row and has played very well; I wouldn't be surprised to see him continue to get playing time. You can expect Samuel Eto'o or Demba Ba to start Chelsea's next game up top.

Monaco have told Chelsea they can have Radamel Falcao for under £80m if they exchange Fernando Torres or Demba Ba in return.

Chelsea's strikers have struggled to get into form and have each dealt with injuries or inconsistencies. Despite the lack of goals from the front men, Chelsea have been relatively good in attack and sit in second place in the Premier League. Anywhere near £80m is a huge fee for any player and if Chelsea have to include Torres or Ba in the deal, the cost might be too high for Falcao. Either way, this will be one of the more interesting stories to follow this January.

Fernando Torres missed Chelsea's game against West Ham over the weekend with an injury but is traveling with the team to Switzerland in hopes of facing Basel.

Torres has recovered from his muscle injury and will be an option for Jose Mourinho against Basel. El Niño has looked good this season and if he can sustain his health, he can turn into a reliable option for Chelsea. I would take a wait and see approach before trusting him in my fantasy team.

Fernando Torres has returned to training but it is uncertain if he will be fit to face West Ham on Saturday.

If Torres can't go, Samuel Eto'o will likely start the game for the Blues. Torres has been in good form when healthy, but a few different injuries have sidelined him for a big part of the last month. I would avoid both Torres and Eto'o unless more confident news comes out before Saturday.

Fernando Torres's adductor injury will keep him out for up to three weeks and he's certain to miss this weekend's game against West Brom.

Jose Mourinho hopes Torres can rejoin the team when the players return from the international break but even that's not certain as of now. Chelsea fans will hope Torres returns in the form he achieved over the last few weeks but he might be a bit rusty as this is his second injury in the past month. Samuel Eto'o performed well against Schalke and will likely get the start against West Brom this weekend.

Fernando Torres' recent upturn in form didn't last the week as he put on a poor performance against Newcastle, and now a thigh injury will keep him out of Chelsea's Champions League match against Shalke.

Torres is having a scan on the injury, but clearly in the short-term Chelsea will have to rely on Samuel Eto'o at striker. Demba Ba is a possibility, but Jose Mourinho has preferred Andre Schurrle at times to the Senegalese striker.

Chelsea were defeated 0-2 by underdogs Newcastle United, missing their chance to go at least temporarily top of the Premier League table.

Fernando Torres got the start for Jose Mourinho after showing impressive form over the last several matches but he could not deliver today as Chelsea in general looked sluggish and lacking punch, especially after Newcastle scored the opener. With a result like this one today, expect Mourinho to shake up his XI again, just when we were beginning to see a semblance of predictability.
