Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo will return to Middlesbrough on a season-long loan according to Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.
The Nigerian defender spent the second half of last season at Middlesbrough and featured regularly. Omeruo has earned a lot of praise from Karanka and has developed into a solid player. If he continues growing at this rate, Omeruo can replace John Terry at Chelsea in the near future. The 20-year-old is a versatile defender who can play at center-back and left-back. Expect him to be a great fantasy option in the future. Jul 23 - 3:56 PM

Middlesbrough have expressed an interest in taking Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo on a season-long loan this year.

Omeruo impressed in four matches in Brazil while representing Nigeria. The young defender was deployed as a right-back with Nigeria but usually prefers to play as a center-back. The 20-year old seems to be Chelsea's future at center-back but he is not yet ready to be starting for the Blues. The most likely scenario is for him to go out on loan and return to Chelsea once John Terry retires. Whether he goes on loan or stays at Chelsea, Omeruo will not be a fantasy option this season.

Nigeria have advanced to the round of 16 as the runner-up of Group F after losing 3-2 to Argentina.

Nigeria played fairly well but Argentina had too much firepower in the end. The Nigerians came back to tie the game twice after Messi gave Argentina the lead, but a second half goal from Marcos Rojo gave Argentina the win. Both Nigerian goals came from Ahmed Musa. Nigeria will face the winner of Group E in the round of 16, which is most likely to be France. France present a tough matchup for anyone and Nigeria will need to be on top of their game to stand a chance.

Kenneth Omeruo signed a new four year deal with Chelsea.

The 20 year old hasn't played a game for the Blues yet because he's been on loan at ADO Den Haag and Middlesbrough. He's been impressive in the Championship and could be a possible replacement for John Terry or Gary Cahill if he develops the way Chelsea expect him to. John Terry recently signed a new deal at Chelsea and Gary Cahill is in his prime, so Omeruo is not expected to make a contribution anytime soon. In all likelihood, he'll be back on loan at Middlesbrough next year.
