Aston Villa midfielder Aleksander Tonev has completed a permanent move to Seria A newcomers Frosinone.
Tonev never established a rotation spot at Aston Villa and was a huge disappointment for fans. Everyone expected him to replace Bulgarian legend Stilian Petrov at the club, but Tonev never became half the player Petrov was. He has made 17 appearances for Villa but his only note-worthy contribution was a seven-match ban for racial abuse. Villa should be happy they've able to recoup some of the money they spent on him. Aston Villa has lost another player this summer as midfielder Aleksandar Tonev has moved to Celtic on a loan with an option for the move to become permanent.

The problem with Tonev leaving Villa isn't so much that he was exceptional in his first season at Villa Park but rather than Villa are losing players from a poor squad and not doing much in the way of replacing/upgrading. Philippe Senderos, Joe Cole, Keiran Richardson and Aly Cissokho - Villa's incoming players thus far - reads more like rounding out the bench for a mid-table team than being headline acquisitions. Things are going to be rough for the Villains this season, especially if Benteke doesn't return to form, and quickly.

Aleksander Tonev is confident he can improve on his current form and make an impact at Aston Villa.

The Bulgarian winger was extremely quiet this season and finished with no goals nor assists in eight starts and 12 appearances from the bench. He believes he's improving and that he has the quality to make a difference next season. Tonev's goal is to become as important as fellow Bulgarian Stilliyan Petrov was for Villa. The good news is that Tonev is only 24 years of age and still has the time to develop. If he doesn't improve immediately, he may be leaving the Premier League next summer.

Aston Villa are after another Bulgarian prospect - this time it's midfielder Simeon Slavchev.

Stiliyan Petrov seems to be very influential at Aston Villa even past his playing days. The now assistant youth coach is recommending a lot of Bulgarians players for Villa and it seems to be working. They've already signed Aleksander Tonev, who has been a role player off the bench, and they've also tried signing Ivelin Popov. Slavchev has been called "the Bulgarian Lampard" and is drawing interest from other English clubs as well. He has 14 goals in 22 games this season for his current club, Litex Lovech, and would be an interesting add to Villa's squad.

Aston Villa reportedly still want Bulgarian star Ivelin Popov after a failed bid this summer.

It's believed Villa might pursue Popov, who is rated at a little more than £8m, in the January transfer window. Villa have a history of Bulgarian players, the most popular of which has been Stiliyan Petrov, so this could be a very possible rumor. Fellow Bulgarian Aleksander Tonev is already fitting well at Villa but has been coming off the bench as he hasn't been able to earn a starting spot yet.

Aleksander Tonev and Jores Okore are almost back from the injuries they suffered during Aston Villa's first preseason game.

The two new signings are expected to make an important contribution to Aston Villa this season. Tonev is certainly set to be given a chance to be a primary first team player and Okore has the potential to be a Villa starter. The two are expected to be back before the season starts and you can expect them to be healthy on day one.

Aston Villa are interested in 23 year old Belgian winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente.

Nacer Chadli is a tall right footed winger who can both create changes and finish them. The winger scored 16 times for Twente last season and would provide Villa with the playmaking ability they have lacked in recent years. He would be a good fit with Christian Benteke and Aleksander Tonev and should help the team immediately.
