Andreas Cornelius will be on the bench against Stoke City as he isn't match fit after injury.
Cornelius is being eased back in after a long spell out with an ankle injury. Cardiff have done well in his absence, but have had to rely too much on Frazier Campbell for goals. Wed, Dec 4, 2013 11:41:00 AM

Cardiff City forward Andreas Cornelius is back in Malky Mackay's squad after a long injury spell, coming off a 60 minute shift against Yeovil Town last week.

The Bluebirds will be anxious to see what they have in their record signing over the summer transfer window, who has only made a one minute cameo thus far this season. Eventually, he should emerge as Cardiff's preferred striker, but will likely be eased into regular starts.

Other than Andreas Cornelius' continued absence for Cardiff City, the Bluebirds are otherwise healthy and ready for the daunting challenge of facing Chelsea this weekend.

Boss Malky Mackay stated Cardiff are ready and "won't go there (Stamford Bridge) with any fear". A lack of fear will probably not be enough to come away from this match with anything, and should be no Cardiff players in your fantasy squad this weekend.

The Cardiff forward continues to struggle with his ankle and is no certainty to start or even make the bench for this weekend's match-up with Hull City.

With Cardiff City facing a crucial match against fellow newly-promoted side Hull City, they are likely to be without Andreas Cornelius for yet another week. The high profile signing has struggled with his ankle since the pre-season and will face a late fitness test. Frazier Campbell and Craig Bellamy are likely to continue to lead the attack and Peter Odemwingie may get his first chance to feature from the bench and stake a claim ahead of Cornelius.

Cardiff's major summer signing in the attack aggravated his pre-season ankle injury leaving him out through the international break.

Lingering ankle injuries combined with a jump up in level of competition may well end up ruining the first half of Cornelius' debut season in the Premier League. Even seasoned forwards occasionally need some time to adjust while young players coming from less competitive leagues almost invariably do. Throw in Cardiff's status as a newly promoted club and you may want to downgrade Cornelius' potential until at least December or January.

With Cardiff City hosting Manchester City, Andreas Cornelius hasn't picked an easy fixture to make his debut.

Reports out of Cardiff have Cornelius winning the fitness battle ahead of this weekend's Premier League home debut for Cardiff City. With Vincent Kompany out for City there could be some opportunities for the young forward but Malky Mackay's men will have to show another level compared to their listless opening weekend road loss. Matija Nastasic is likely to return to the City line-up so City's defense won't be entirely depleted.

Malky Mackay's new signing at forward faces a late fitness test ahead of Cardiff's first ever match in the Premier League.

Cardiff's calling card in the Championship last season was defense and they seem likely to face a challenge scoring in the Premier League. They will need Andreas Cornelius to be healthy and adapt quickly to the new league. He is too risky to start this weekend and there isn't a replacement worth using a roster spot on.
