Pepe Reina appears to be trading one reserve goalkeeper job at Liverpool for a higher profile one at Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich's English language Twitter feed has officially welcomed the goalkeeper to the club and has indicated that he has passed his medical with an eye toward a contract signing tomorrow. It is a curious move for the player since he could presumably find a job somewhere as a starter. In terms of impact on Liverpool, there isn't likely to be a great deal since the Spaniard spent all of last season on loan at Napoli. Thu, Aug 7, 2014 04:35:00 PM

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will join former boss, Rafa Benitez, at Napoli on a season-long loan.

It was long expected that Reina would join Barcelona this summer, and Liverpool spent big on Simon Mignolet to replace him. With that move not materializing, he needed to come off the books, and a loan move will suit all parties for now.

The off-again-on-again rumors linking Pepe Reina with a move away from Liverpool are back on now that Simon Mignolet has signed with the Anfield team.

Both Arsenal and Barcelona have been linked to Reina at different times over the last 18 months or so. With Mignolet no longer an option for Arsenal and Julio Cesar reportedly leaning toward Italy, it may make sense for Arsenal and Liverpool to restart talks over the Spanish keeper. Certainly Liverpool don't have the financial resources to keep both starting-quality keepers while center back and other positions require attention. For Arsenal's part, they could certainly use a veteran like Reina to slot in front of Wojciech Szczesny.

Barcelona have reportedly offered 8 million pounds for Pepe Reina, and hope to have the deal completed in the next two weeks.

Liverpool are set to offer Reina a new contract if he doesn't move, but more likely would be their bidding for Asmir Begovic or Simon Mingnolet to replace the Spaniard this summer.
