After much speculation and waiting on medical clearance, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher has named Christian Ponder as the starter for when the Seminoles take on South Carolina in their bowl game.  Ponder will start but will not necessarily play all four quarters as he could split time with E.J. Manuel.

If Ponder's elbow is good to go, he should play the whole game but Manuel has stepped in before and is capable of leading the Noles to a win.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder had surgery last week to remove scar tissue in his right (throwing) forearm. The scar tissue is a byproduct of his injured elbow, and Ponder missed practice on Tuesday.

All the talk is that Ponder expects to play in the Chick-fll-a-Bowl against South Carolina, but this is a touchy situation and he'll likely be a gametime decision.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder (elbow) status for the Chick-fil-A Bowl against South Carolina is still uncertain. "We have to evaluate his arm and do what's right for him," coach Jimbo Fisher said. "I would think the amount of time he has between now and the bowl game he should be OK. But we'll have to evaluate it to see if there's anything else that could be done."

Ponder has been struggling with the elbow problem all season. If he can't play, E.J. Manuel will get the start.

After sitting out last week's game, Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder (elbow) returned and went 16 of 26 for 170 yards, a touchdown and a pick.

The 'Noles won, so what do I know?  I think I know Jimbo Fisher is being loyal to his senior, when the backup looks a lot more dynamic.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher says that Christian Ponder will start against Maryland, but E.J. Manuel could play as well.

Ponder's snaps will be determined by how well his elbow holds up. Given the uncertainty, Ponder is not a good fantasy start this week.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder (elbow) has plans on starting this week against Maryland, replacing E.J. Manuel who filled in admirably in the win over Clemson.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Ponder had 16 ounces of fluid drained from his elbow last week. That sounds nice. Despite this Ponder says he was given clearance to play, however he had missed the week of practice, so Manuel got the nod.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder (elbow) returned to practice Thursday, and is officially listed as questionable on the 'Noles injury report.

Given the importance of the game, you have to figure Ponder will try to gut this one out.  That said, he's been average at best all year, and unless you are really desperate, he should be on your bench.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder missed his third straight practice due to reoccurring elbow issues in his right (throwing) arm on Wednesday. "It looks like he may get to sling it around [Thursday],'' coach Jimbo Fisher said. "We'll wait around [Thursday] and see.'

Ponder could still start Saturday against Clemson, but it looks more and more like E.J. Manuel could get the start.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder underwent a procedure on his throwing elbow and he may miss this week's game against Clemson. E.J. Manuel ran the offense in practice today.

We'll have to monitor Ponder's progress this week; at this point we'd label the FSU senior as questionable.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder threw for a season high 264 yards and three touchdowns in a loss to North Carolina.

Amazing that it's only his second game over 200 yards passing this season.  Brace for more pedestrian numbers next week against Clemson.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder threw for 196 yards and a touchdown, and added two more scores on the ground against N.C. State.

Ponder also fumbled twice, the second of which was in the final minutes of play with tight end Beau Reliford wide open in the endzone for the winning touchdown.  We've been waiting for a breakout for Ponder for too long, and it's beyond time to move on in BCS leagues.
