After losing Vai Taua to graduation, the Nevada Wolfpack are looking for the next "Nevada Back."  Running backs coach Jim Mastro says "We want to find one guy. That's what coach Chris Ault wants and that's what I want. We always want to find that one guy." 
It is always a good sign for the fantasy world when a coach wants to ride just one back but the question is will it be Mike Ball or Lampford Mark?  Whoever wins the job should see plenty of carries with Colin Kaepernick no longer in Reno. Fri, Feb 4, 2011 08:45:00 PM

Vai Taua - RB - Wolf Pack

Nevada running back Vai Taua had no problem against the Louisiana Tech rush defense as he carried the ball 29 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Taua is a record-setting back for the Wolfpack and is gone after this year but they will certainly be able to keep producing with some nice young talent ready to step in.

Vai Taua - RB - Wolf Pack

Nevada tailback Vai Taua put his team on his back and carried them to a win over conference foe Boise State with a 32 carry, 131 yard, one touchdown rushing effort.

Taua receiving the most carries he has had all season and it certainly made a difference as the Wolfpack knocked off the fourth-ranked Broncos. The Boise defense looked to wear down in the fourth quarter as Nevada continued to pound the ball.

Vai Taua - RB - Wolf Pack

Nevada running back Vai Taua lead the Wolfpack ground game with 111 yards and two touchdowns while also leading the receiving game with just one catch which went for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Taua is a solid starter every week, even against Boise State next week.

Vai Taua - RB - Wolf Pack

Vai Taua did not rush for as many yards as he normally does, but he certainly made up for it with three trips to paydirt.  Taua finished the game against Fresno with 21 carries for 89 yards and three scores.

Taua is a must start every week.

Nevada embarrassed the Idaho rush defense as they finished the game with three 100 yard rushers, one of which was not Colin Kaepernick.  Lampford Mark had 116 yards on just six carries, Vai Taua had 113 yards, and Mike Ball had 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Certainly anytime you start Taua he will perform, but even the backups are viable fantasy options some weeks.

Nevada running back Vai Taua says his ankle is "99.9 percent" healthy and expects play against Idaho.

Taua was a coaching decision scratch last week, much to the dismay of fantasy owners. Hopefully he won't disappoint two weeks in a row.

Nevada's star tailback, Vai Taua, was nowhere to be seen against Utah State as Lampford Mark got the start.

Apparently Taua was nursing an ankle injury but there is no official report as to how long he will be out.

Nevada running back Vai Taua (ankle) is expected to be ready for this week's game against Utah State.

The bye week came a good time for Taua as he was able to rest up for the Aggies, who have given up yards on the ground this year.

Nevada head coach Chris Ault has been very pleased with the hard running of his top tailback Vai Taua and said that "We're going to keep feeding him that football".

With Kaepernick doing a much better job passing, Taua is finding more running room and it is always a good thing when the coach says he will be getting the ball a lot.

Nevada tailback Vai Taua had a big day against the Spartan defense as he had just 16 carries, but for a whopping 196 yards and three touchdowns.

As Colin Kaepernick is becoming a better passer, it is leaving more running lanes open for the talented back, so expect him to keep producing.

Vai Taua - RB - Wolf Pack

Nevada running back Vai Taua accounted for four touchdowns as the Wolfpack won the battle for the Fremont Cannon against rival UNLV.  Taua ran the ball 19 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns and also caught two passes for 17 yards and another score.

When a team faces the Wolfpack you either get Colin Kaepernick running all over you, Taua running all over you, or both.

Nevada running back Vai Taua shouldered the bulk of the rushing load for the Wolfpack in the win over BYU by carrying the ball 29 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. 

With Mike Ball suspended, Taua is even more the recipient of carries as witnessed by tonight's performance.

Nevada running back Vai Taua had 25 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown in the win over Cal.

Taua shredded the Bears defense all night and win WAC conference play around the corner should be poised for some huge nights.  The Wolfpack seem to be content with Taua carrying the load so expect him to surpass last year's totals.

After being ruled academically ineligible for the Hawaii Bowl, Nevada running back Vai Taua is ready to make the most of his second chance.  “What I learned from it was that I can’t leave my family like that.. .. I’ve got a little more on my shoulders, and I’m ready to prove something,” Taua said.

With Luke Lippincott out of the way, the path is clear for Taua to have a big year.  He could wind up being the top fantasy back in 2010.
