No surprise as Notre Dame junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen has decided to forgo his senior season and make himself available for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Clausen's press conference at The College Football Hall of Fame to announce he was attending Notre Dame seems 10, not nearly three years ago. And while it's fair to say his collegiate career didn't produce anywhere near the wins that Irish fans anticipated, the former #1 QB recruit in the nation did improve considerably during his three years as starter.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbick says the 6-6 Irish will likely decline any bowl invitation. "I agree (no bowl) is the likely outcome, but we are reconvening the leadership counsel to make a final decision," athletic director Swarbrick told the Chicago Tribune.

Sure your season didn't go as planned.  Sure you canned your coach.  Sure your starting quarterback and one of your top wide receivers are likely to jump to the  NFL. But... canceling your bowl game sends a bad message.  Notre Dame fans must be appalled if this is the case.  This is not like the situation of a few years ago when South Carolina and Clemson declined bowl bids following an on-the-field fight that probably warranted such a measure.  On the positive side, the players at UCLA are eager to play some football.

Notre Dame players are expected to vote on Monday on whether or not they want to play in a bowl game.

I hate to pile on Notre Dame while they are down, but are you serious?  Any player that puts a 'no' vote down has to be seriously questioned.  Your season was a disappointment, sack up, get over it and go do what you came to Notre Dame to do...play football.

Despite recent rumors, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he does not have an interview set up with Notre Dame.  

Notre Dame has yet to make a decision on the status of Charlie Weis, at least not officially.  Stoops, Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly are all names that have been thrown around as potential candidates for the Irish gig.  Of them, Kelly seems like the only one that has a remote chance of happening.  The rest seem to be figments of imaginations for Irish faithful and media members.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as the Irish fell once again.

Notre Dame has been a fantasy gold mine all year.  With Clausen expected to go pro, that well could dry up quite a bit in 2010.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick says that quarterback Jimmy Clausen was "the victim of a sucker punch" at a South Bend bar early Sunday morning.

Clausen, his girlfriend and his family were enjoying a midnight snack at C.J.'s Pub, except it was 2:00 a.m. No word on the junior's status for Saturday.

WGN 720 is reporting that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight outside a Notre Dame bar early Sunday morning, and he may have been given two black eyes as a capper to a pretty rough day.

Normally we don't deal in rumors such as this, but it's hard to doubt a WGN report; after all this is the organization that allowed the nation to enjoy Harry Caray. This Irish are preparing to face Stanford this weekend, and this development could certainly have a huge impact on the contest.

"Oh no, I don't think that any decision's been made because I probably would know, and I don't know," Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday about the possibility that he could be fired.

Unfortunately for Charlie, the guy that gets fired is usually the last to know.  Weis has been on the hot seat after dropping the last two games.

With Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis seemingly hanging on by a thread, expect some big names to be tossed around the rumor mill. This week the possible candidates include Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz.  Last week it was Cincinnati's Brian Kelly.

At no other time during the year do more "sources" come out of the woodwork with their "inside info" than late November when the axes start to fall.  But it's fun, it makes million dollar coaches squirm and internet message boards light up like a Christmas tree.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 452 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Navy.

Notre Dame may not be very good on the defensive side of the ball, but they are an offensive machine. There isn't a fantasy trio in the nation better than Clausen, Golden Tate, and Michael Floyd.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) left Saturday's win over Washington State early, though coach Charlie Weis said his junior quarterback could have returned to action if he was needed.

Clausen's toe will cause him problems all season, though he's made it clear that he expects to play through the pain.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 422 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon against Washington.

His isn't 100 percent, but Clausen at 90 percent is still pretty darn good.  Keep playing him.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) told The Chicago Tribune that he doesn't expect to return to 100% until after the season.

Clausen sounds fully ready to play through the discomfort, though fantasy owners will certainly want to monitor his mobility as the season continues.

Jimmy Clausen - QB - Fighting Irish

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis said that running back Armando Allen (ankle) and quarterback Jimmy Clausen (toe) will be "ready to go" this weekend against Washington.

Clausen played sporadically against Purdue while Allen sat out last weekend. Each appears to be a solid start with the Huskies visiting South Bend.
