Indiana hired Central Michigan RB coach Nick Sheridan to serve as quarterbacks coach.
Sheridan just joined the Chippewa staff last month. Short-lived stay there, that one, as the Hoosiers have now tabbed him to replace Shawn Watson as QB coach. Watson jumped ship from Indiana to take the vacant offensive-coordinating gig at Pittsburgh on Thursday. While Sheridan was initially hired to coach up Central Michigan's running backs, he won't be out of place in his new role with Indiana -- Sheridan played quarterback at Michigan from 2006-2009. Getting caught up on some odds and ends, Michigan quarterback Nick Sheridan has one more year of eligibility left, but he has elected not to use it.

Sheridan was a square peg in a round hole in the Michigan offense, but he was a veteran and his leadership will be missed.

Amidst the NCAA's ruling that Michigan committed five major rules violations, incoming athletic director David Brandon says Rich Rodriguez is not in any immediate danger of losing his job.  "Rich Rodriguez is our football coach and he'll be our football coach next year."

That may be true for the present, but the Wolverines better make a bowl game or it is safe to say that he won't be the coach in 2011.

The NCAA  infractions committee will meet on Aug. 13-14 to discuss the fate of the Michigan football program after it ruled they committed five major rules violations. So what penalties will the NCAA hand down?

Probation, loss of practice time and possibly the loss of scholarships seem like the most reasonable outcomes. Stiffer penalties would include a post season ban or forfeiting wins seem unlikely. The fact that the NCAA had to rule that they had five major rules violations, instead of Michigan reporting them themselves, will likely factor into the decision.  This case seems similar to the Dez Bryant case, where Bryant wasn't exactly forthcoming about the facts upfront.

The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced that the NCAA has found five major violations stemming primarily from exceeding allowed practice-time limits.

The University will go before the NCAA in August, which will cast a cloud over the opening to fall practice.

Michigan has hired an outside firm to investigate whether or not the football program violated NCAA rules regarding offseason work and practices during the season.

Several Michigan players reported to the Detroit Free Press that they routinely went over the 20 hour practice limit per week. There has been no timetable put on when the investigation would be complete.

Michigan quarterbacks coach Rod Smith tells the Detroit Free Press that anyone who assumes the quarterback job is already Tate Forcier's is mistaken, as Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan will compete as well during camp.Â

Assuming all quarterbacks stay healthy we still can envision a scenario where all three play a role this season. Robinson is the burner and Sheridan has the most familiarity with the system, while Forcier seems to be closest to the total package of the three.Â

A great deal of attention has been given to the ballyhooed freshman Tate Forcier, but Michigan junior quarterback Nick Sheridan has no plans of donning the headset just yet.

Coach Rich Rodriguez appears eager to let Sheridan, Forcier and fellow freshman Denard Robinson battle it out during camp. The smart money remains on Forcier, but as Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News references, Nick Sheridan built a lot of character while he and Michigan went through their struggles in 2008.

"Which is a shame because Nick (Sheridan) should be mentioned," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said when asked about the current quarterback situation. "Nick's not conceding the job. He's going to compete for it. If you ask the coaches, Nick Sheridan is going to be in the mix. Denard (Robinson) and Tate (Forcier) will be, as well."

Despite all the hype surrounding Forcier, we fully expect Sheridan to see some time under center this season. Unfortunately for Nick, the new guys fit Rodriguez's system better, so his minutes will be limited.

Michigan quarterback Nick Sheridan (leg fracture) is back to "running and throwing", according to quarterback coach Rod Smith. "It's not a big deal I don't think," Smith said. "Obviously you could always use the reps but he's to the point where he understands what we're doing now."

There is a lot of hype surrounding freshman Tate Forcier, and we're certainly buying the excitement. And while we believe Forcier will be UofM's starter this fall, don't count out the veteran Sheridan just yet.

It has been confirmed that Michigan quarterback Nick Sheridan is out 4-6 weeks with a fracture to his lower right leg. Sheridan will miss the rest of spring practice but should be fine when practice resumes in August.

This is a tough blow for Nick and Wolverines' offense. But it will give Tate Forcier more work this spring, which could be a blessing in disguise.

Reports out of Ann Arbor are that quarterback Nick Sheridan suffered a significant leg injury in practice on Wednesday. While it is unconfirmed, there is speculation that Nick Sheridan may have suffered a broken leg.

More information is sure to surface in the coming days, but it does not sound good. The odds of freshman Tate Forcier being the opening day starter just increased.

Nick Sheridan took the initial quarterback snap when Michigan opened spring practice Saturday morning.

Obviously Rich Rodriguez isn't going to turn over keys to the car to true freshman Tate Forcier without first seeing if he can drive. According to the Detroit News report, Forcier looked sharp. Sheridan, Forcier and David Cone will split snaps this spring.

Michigan starting quarterback limped off the field in the third quarter against Ohio State.

True freshman Justin Feagin has come in to replace Sheridan at quarterback.

Michigan sophomore quarterback Nick Sheridan will start in place of Steven Threet against Ohio State this Saturday.

Sheridan is not a good starting option for your fantasy team.
