Boise State senior RB D.J. Harper rushed for 72 yards on 16 carries, as well as 14 receiving yards on three receptions, Saturday against Washington.
Harper did just enough to help the Broncos get a win, but his longest run only went for 17 yards. He certainly has to pass his medical exams during the draft process, but if Harper is cleared he will likely be drafted in April. Sun, Dec 23, 2012 09:41:00 AM

Date:

Boise State will meet Washington in the Maaco Bowl in Las Vegas on December 22.

Broncos senior running back D.J. Harper has put together an excellent season and flashes balance with a lean frame, but a long history of injuries could determine his pre-draft process. Boise State corner Jamar Taylor is another to keep note of. For Washington, cornerback Desmond Trufant is loved by some, but considered average by others. The Huskies also deploy junior quarterback Keith Price and of of 2013's top prospects in tight end Austin Seferien-Jenkins.

Boise State senior RB D.J. Harper rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries Saturday against Nevada.

After an injury filled career, Harper has found new life this season in a lead back role. He doesn't hit the ball quite as quickly as Doug Martin, but Harper has nice balance to bounce off attempted tackles despite a longer and leaner frame.

Boise State senior RB D.J. Harper rushed for 112 yards on 31 carries during Thursday's game against BYU.

Harper also converted three receptions for 20 yards. A big chunk of Harper's rushing total came on a single run of 35 yards, and without it he would have averaged 2.6 yards per carry, down from the actual 3.6. We have seen Harper be hot and cold throughout his career, with a long list of injuries being the main factor for poor performances, but he will have to pass team medicals in order to be considered draftable.

The NCAA granted Boise State running back D.J. Harper was granted a sixth year of eligibility.

Harper and the Broncos may have gotten lucky with this one. The NCAA grants medical hardships to players who participate in less than 30 percent of a team's games the season in which the injury occurs. Therefore, a fifth season of eligibility is in order. In Harper's case, he played the first three games -- but less than 30 percent of the schedule -- in BOTH 2009 and 2010 seasons before he was shelved with ACL injuries. The 2012 season will not only be Harper's sixth on campus, but the sixth in which he will have played for the Broncos. The likely starter with Doug Martin gone, Harper ran for 557 yards and 9 TDs last season.

Boise State running back D.J. Harper is out for the year after tearing the ACL in his left knee. This is the same ACL that he tore last season.

With Harper out, Jeremy Avery will see his role increase.  But, more importantly, it means more carries for Doug Martin as the lead back.

Boise State running back D.J. Harper left the game early against Oregon State as he injured his leg, but according to head coach Chris Petersen, Harper is just fine.

Losing Harper would not greatly affect the Bronco backfield with a wealth of talent in Doug Martin and Jeremy Avery.  Owners of Harper may want to monitor his playing time though.

According to Boise State offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, tailback D.J. Harper "looks better than I’ve seen him, which is great for him after what he went through" and has "made a case for himself to be on the field".

The Boise backfield is a bit crowded lately with Doug Martin and Jeremy Avery also commanding carries but wait to see how the carries shake out and you could find yourself a waiver wire gem in Harper.

Boise State's dynamic athlete Doug Martin, moved from running back to defensive back this off-season, will return to the offensive backfield after the season-ending injury suffered by D.J. Harper.

Martin has been impressive no matter where he's played, and as the #2 back in the Boise offense he immediately becomes a fantasy factor.

Boise State running back D.J. Harper will miss the rest of the 2009 season with a torn ACL.

With Harper out, the running back by committee eases a bit making Jeremy Avery a must-have for fantasy owners.

Boise State's leading rusher D.J. Harper suffered a leg injury in Friday's victory over Fresno State. Further tests are scheduled to determine the extent of the injury.

Jeremy Avery will likely see increased work if Harper is out for any playing time. Doug Martin and Matt Kaiserman could get some work at running back as well.
