Wisconsin running back John Clay (knee) is back to full strength and dominating practice. "He'll be ready (for the Rose Bowl)," running backs coach John Settle said. "It's going to be up to me as his position coach to try and keep him under control, to pull back the reins. ...Especially the way he has looked the last couple of practices."

Look for Clay to resume his role as lead back for the Badgers. Montee Ball and James White will also see carries, but Clay should carry the load.

Wisconsin running back John Clay continues to wear a protective knee brace in practice but will ditch the cumbersome contraption for the Rose Bowl. "I feel good, just about 100 percent," Clay said. "I'm just wearing this for precautionary reasons.

The time off has given Clay plenty of time to rest his tired legs and heal his ailing knee. Look for him to resume his role as the lead back against TCU on Jan. 1.

Wisconsin running back John Clay, receiver Nick Toon and defensive end J.J. Watt will explore their NFL options in the coming weeks. "We'll sit down with them this week," coach Brett Bielema said Tuesday. "There is an opportunity that the NFL gives you to get information about where you potentially could be drafted."

Watt and Clay are the most likely candidates to leave school early. There just doesn't seem to be much more Clay could prove or gain by coming back for another year. "My age plays a role," the soon to be 23-year old Clay said. "The position I am, the style of running back I am."

Wisconsin running back John Clay returned to practice on Tuesday and there is a good chance he will play this weekend against Northwestern. "He looks rested," running backs coach John Settle said after practice. "He looks hungry. He is excited about getting back on the field."

While this is great for the Badgers, it is not ideal for fantasy owners trying to decide whether or not to start Montee Ball and James White.

The status of Wisconsin running back John Clay (knee) against Northwestern on Saturday is up in the air. "When I went through the training room this morning at 10 o'clock, (Clay) was braced up and ready to go run," coach Bret Bielema said Monday. "He was telling me how good it felt on Sunday. My guess is, we'll probably get him involved a little bit on Tuesday and Wednesday, see where he's at moving forward, because if he's available, we'd definitely like to use all three."

Whether or not Clay plays will have a big impact on the fantasy values of Montee Ball and James White.

Wisconsin running back John Clay is officially doubtful for Saturday's contest against Michigan. "Everybody should be good to go except for John," UW coach Bret Bielama said after practice on Thursday. "He did a little bit more at the beginning of practice today and then they went and conditioned him. ...He might go through some stuff tomorrow but probably just in a reserve role on Saturday."

Based on the earlier reports this comes as no surprise, but we always like to hear it from the coach's mouth. The green light is on for Montee Ball and James White owners.

Wisconsin running back John Clay (knee) did not practice on Tuesday. "We are going to see where he is (Wednesday)," running backs coach John Settle said. "As of today...we would use John only on (an emergency) basis."

Barring a change in Clay's status both Montee Ball and James White look like good starts this week against Michigan.

Wisconsin running back John Clay (knee) remains questionable, but is improving. "Clay is still yet to be determined," coach Bret Bielema said Monday. "I haven't seen him today but yesterday, he was moving as good as he has (since getting hurt against Purdue). I don't know if we'll have him for Tuesday, but we do expect him to get a limited amount of work this week."

Obviously going up against Michigan's defense this is a big one for owners of Clay, Montee Ball and even James White to watch.

Wisconsin running back John Clay (knee) practiced on Tuesday and there is a chance he'll play against Purdue. “My guess, by the reaction John had, he’s going to be ready to play,” coach Brett Bielema said on Tuesday after he bumped into his burly back in the training room. “He’s a guy that takes a lot of pride in playing. He was ready to play (last) Saturday.”

With Montee Ball running well and James White (knee) expected back, Clay is a tough start this week. There is a good chance that even if he is ready to go, Wisconsin could limit his carries.

Wisconsin running back John Clay is questionable for Saturday's game against Indiana due to a sprained MCL in his knee.

Good news is Clay's MRI came back negative and it isn't an ankle injury that has slowed him in the past. With Clay likely to sit and rest up, Montee Ball looks like a solid play this week. James White (knee) could also return and be a factor this week as well.
