Quarterback John Brantley went 12-for-16 f0r 132 yards and a touchdown in a 24-17 Gator Bowl victory over Ohio State.
Brantley got the ball rolling early with 17-yard touchdown pass to Deonte Thompson in the first quarter, then let his special teams do the rest. The Gators got a 99-yard kickoff return from Andre Debose followed by a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown. Though Brantley did have an interception, his offensive efforts were just enough to secure a bowl win and winning record for the Gators this season. Mon, Jan 2, 2012 04:33:00 PM

Florida’s John Brantley threw for 329 yards and 4 touchdowns in Florida’s 54-32 win over Furman.

Brantley could not have guessed he would have such a busy day. The Gators trailed 22-7 after the opening quarter and were up by only five after three quarters. The senior's yardage and touchdown totals were easily season highs in a year in which he missed two games and was far from 100 percent in a couple others.

Florida quarterback John Brantley was removed from Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt with what coach Will Muschamp said Monday was an arm injury. It is not a serious injury and Muschamp said the senior could have returned.

The injury had been a mystery until today as both the coaching staff and quarterback kept silent. Brantley was removed during the fourth quarter after compiling 16-24-173 and 0/0 in the win. It was his second game back after missing two contests due to an ankle sprain.

Florida coach Will Muschamp said quarterback John Brantley will likely be ready to play against Georgia on Saturday.

Brantley left the Oct. 1 loss to Alabama with an ankle sprain. His missed the next two games during which the Gators scored a combined 17 points in losses to LSU and Auburn. A combination of young quarterbacks threw for 228 yards and 1/3 in the defeats. It has not helped that the running game has taken a hit due to injury as well. Brantley’s return will give the offense a veteran presence at a desperately needed time what with the Gators having lost three straight to fall to 4-3 and 2-3 in SEC play.

Florida’s John Brantley is off crutches and coach Will Muschamp is hopeful the quarterback can practice Monday.

Next week will obviously be key for Brantley, who has missed 2-plus games with a high ankle sprain suffered against Alabama. The Gators are off this week and play Georgia in Jacksonville next week.

An ankle injury will keep Florida quarterback John Brantley sidelined for Saturday's game at Auburn.

The question in Gainesville is, who will be the starting quarterback when the Gators take the field at Auburn? With Brantley out for a second straight week and John Driskel also hobbled by an ankle injury, Jacoby Brissett would get the nod as he did against LSU. Driskel is not listed as being out, however, so it could be Brissett/Driskel versus the Tigers. Brissett was 8-of-14 for 94 yards and 1/2 at LSU.

Florida quarterback John Brantley has been ruled out for the LSU game with an ankle injury.

Depending on the nature of the injury, Brantley could be out a while. What we do know is freshman John Driskel is now the starting quarterback of the Florida Gators. That situation could change depending how things shake out in practice. Redshirt freshman Tyler Murphy and another true frosh, Jacoby Brissett, are also in the mix.

Florida quarterback John Brantley will likely miss Saturday's game at LSU after injuring his right leg in the loss to Alabama.

There are "source" reports circulating that Brantley will not play against LSU, but nothing was confirmed as of early Monday morning. We do know Brantley is hurting and, should he not dress for the Tigers, his loss is sure to hurt given how comfortable he has been in OC Charlie Weis' offense. True freshman John Driskel came on for Brantley and was 2-6-14 against the Crimson Tide. On the season, the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder is 7-16-73 with 2 picks.

Florida quarterback John Brantley, watched closely after a middling 2010, feeling good after solid opening week.

Forget replacing Tim Tebow. It was not going to happen. That said, nobody expected the Gators offense to underperform the way it did a year ago. Brantley needed and had a nice fall camp and carried it into Saturday. Sure, Brantley and Florida played a Florida Atlantic program not expected to do much in the Sun Belt this season. Still, Brantley was solid. With two outstanding running backs, "solid" is what is needed from the senior. He should never feel he has to do it all.

Gators' quarterback John Brantley is feeling good about what new coordinator Charlie Weis has brought to the offense.

After a shaky first season in running the Florida offense, Brantley needed a confidence boost. Thanks in large part to the presence of new coordinator Charlie Weis, Brantley is feeling very good about his progress in a pro-style scheme.

Florida quarterback John Brantley continued his streak of terrible performances into the Gator's spring game.  Brantley only played in the first half and went 4-of-14 for 45 yards.  Conversely, redshirt freshman Tyler Murphy looked good going 7-of-11 for 68 yards.

At this point, the only thing Brantley has going for him is experience but even that experience wasn't that good.

Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins made news by forgoing the NFL Draft to come back to Gainesville and has made the headlines once more. Jenkins was arrested on possession of marijuana early Saturday.

No word yet on any suspensions for the talented cornerback. Welcome to Gainesville Mr. Muschamp.

Florida running back Mike Blakely is one of the team's top recruits for this year and even enrolled early to try and climb the depth chart but it will have to wait as he undergoes shoulder surgery.  Blakely is expected to miss spring practice.

The Gator backfield has been rather lackluster and full of injuries so this only adds salt to the wound.

Former Notre Dame head coach and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis has been named the new offensive coordinator for Florida.

Head coach Will Muschamp said that he wanted to install more of a pro-style offense and Weis, while being a bad coach, is still a great play caller and quarterback developer.

"I haven’t really discussed it with my parents yet," Florida quarterback John Brantley said when asked again about whether he will stay or transfer. " I don’t even know. I’m a Gator. That’s what I am right now. I’m just giving all my effort to this bowl game and just acting like it’s any other bowl game or any other game.”

With the hiring of coach Will Muschamp and the likely move away from an offense that requires a mobile quarterback, you would think this would be music to Brantley's ears. Though he doesn't sound like a guy that wants to stay "right now."
