Finally, Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa will play in a bowl.
The senior missed last season’s TicketCity Bowl against Texas Tech (45-38 loss) with a ruptured Achilles tendon and did not take the field as Mike Kafka’s backup during a thrilling Outback Bowl loss two years ago. Unless something happens on the practice field before Dec. 31, Persa will finally get a chance in a bowl. The Wildcats travel to Houston to play Texas A&M in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Persa, who was held out early in the season with lingering effects of his injured tendon, has 2,163 yards passing and 17/7 in nine games. Mon, Dec 5, 2011 12:34:00 PM

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa expects to play Saturday against Rice after missing the second half of last week’s game at Nebraska with a injured shoulder.

It’s been one thing after another for Persa as far as injuries this season – a season that did not get underway for the senior until October because of his recovery from a torn ACL. Kain Colter’s play has been such that there has not been a drop-off at the position, but the Wildcats are much more versatile – and unpredictable – with Persa and Colter in the lineup together.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa threw for 261 yards and 3 TDs in a 59-38 win at Indiana.

Persa, who was 16-of-20, threw each of his touchdown passes in the second quarter. Since returning to the lineup against Illinois on Oct. 1, the senior has completed at least 70 percent of his passes in each of his five games. He added 41 yards rushing on four attempts.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa will be good to go against Michigan on Saturday, but the Wildcats lost RB Mike Trumpy.

The sigh of relief you heard came from coach Pat Fitzgerald’s office in Evanston. Persa hurt his right foot against Illinois in his season debut and was forced to the sideline, a horrible sight for Northwestern fans who were without their QB for the first three games. Persa was 10-14-123 and 4 TDs on Saturday. The news was not all good, however, as RB Mike Trumpy (182 yards) was lost for the season.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa will see action for the first time since last Nov. 13 when he takes the field Saturday at Illinois.

This is what coach Pat Fitzgerald was waiting for. He wanted to make sure his star quarterback was ready for the start of Big Ten play. Persa and the Wildcats had the benefit of a week off to prepare for the bus ride to Champaign. There were some bumps and bruises without Persa under center, particularly an uninspiring loss at West Point. But the season starts anew on Saturday and Persa will have a role for first time in 2011.

Northwestern's off week will enable quarterback Dan Persa additional preparation for the Big Ten schedule.

Persa, who was cleared to play but remained sidelined in the loss at Army, should finally be unwrapped when the Wildcats kick off conference play at Illinois next week. Coach Pat Fitzgerald may have been overly cautious in bypassing the senior against the Cadets, but with an off week prior to the start of conference play next Saturday, Fitzgerald had the luxury of buying additional time for his prized player. Sure the Wildcats lost at West Point, but the bigger picture starts Oct. 1 with a healthy Persa under center in Champaign.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against Eastern Illinois.

This comes as no surprise. After all, Persa was not ready for the opener at Boston College and there is certainly no need to rush him back against an FCS opponent. Kain Colter will make his second start should Persa be held back.

Northwestern’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s game is listed as Dan Persa "OR" Kain Colter.

Kolter was banged up in the win against Boston College and Persa is obviously not where he and the Wildcats coaching staff want him to be as he continues to recover from a torn right Achilles’ tendon. Two things we do know: Colter did well enough (197 yds pass, 1 INT; 71 yds rush 1 TD) at BC and Northwestern hosts Eastern Illinois of the FCS on Saturday. It could add up for another week off for Persa.

With his Achilles’ not completely healed, Northwestern senior quarterback Dan Persa is still not pushing the throttle all the way.

If Persa is not able to go against Boston College on Saturday, a decision that will be made by NU’s medical team, then sophomore Kain Colter will get the nod. To better prepare himself in the eventuality he gets the call, Colter has adopted the mindset in practice that he will be the starter. He completed 3-of-9 passes last season.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa is ahead of schedule in his rehab on a torn Achilles tendon which was suffered in the win over Iowa this season. While it is good that he is progressing along, Persa is still most likely not going to be able to participate in spring ball.

If Persa can come back fully recovered, he should once again be one of the top Big Ten quarterbacks next season.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa had 368 yards of offense with three touchdowns in an upset win over Iowa.

Ironically, he ruptured his Achilles while throwing the game winning touchdown pass.  This is a big loss to fantasy owners of Persa, as he was having a great season.

Northwestern heart and soul Dan Persa will miss the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles injury while throwing the game-winning score against Iowa.

Persa will have surgery tonight and hopefully return at 100% next season. Persa was an absolute stud in 2010.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa accounted for 310 yards from scrimmage and three scores in the tough loss at Happy Valley.

Persa has been a great fantasy performer to date as his 21 touchdowns have him near the top of the Big Ten list. He's got a rough stretch (Iowa, Illinois, Wisky) remaining, but we should have all learned that it's not wise to doubt Dapper Danny Persa.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa passed all the post-concussion tests and will start this Saturday against Penn State. "We fully expect him to play and be fine unless there's something that occurs between now and Thursday," coach Pat Fitzgerald said.

Good news for Northwestern as Persa is the entire Wildcat offense.

Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent concussion.

Check back during the week on Persa's status, but hopefully he will be fine.  Losing Persa for a week would be a blow to the Wildcats.
