Notre Dame junior wide receiver Golden Tate has decided to declare for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Tate's departure does not come as a shock, especially given recent events. Over the last two years Tate has proven to be one of college football's top playmakers.

Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate is expected to meet with former Irish coach Charlie Wes on Friday regarding whether he will return for his senior year or enter the NFL Draft.  Tate says two big factors will be whether or not quarterback Jimmy Clausen returns and who the next Irish coach will be.

Something tells me Tate has pretty much already made his decision.  Especially after his performance against Stanford last weekend.

Notre Dame has fired coach Charlie Weis, according to the New York Daily News.

It was only a matter of time. Weis finishes his five years at Notre Dame with a 35-27 record, not much better than the "6-5" record he said was unacceptable when hired. It doesn't seem like Weis will struggle to get an assistant job in the NFL, although he doesn't exactly need the money. Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate seem likely to enter the NFL Draft now.

Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate had 201 yards receiving and three touchdowns in the loss to Stanford.

Another Notre Dame offensive star who has an NFL decision to make, Tate has gone over the 100-yard mark four games in a row, and has exceeded 200 yards twice.   He has scored at least one touchdown in eight consecutive games and has 17 total scores on the season.  Solid.

Notre Dame wide receivers Michael Floyd and Golden Tate both went over 100 yards with a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as the Irish lost to Connecticut.

If you don't care about the Charlie Weis watch, I suggest not watching ESPN all week.  He's probably gone, but I guess it's not over until the portly coach sings.

Golden Tate caught 9 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown while returning a punt 87 yards for a score in the loss to Pittsburgh.

This is nothing new as Tate has produced these types of numbers nearly all season.  For the year, Tate has 1,172 yards receiving with 13 combined touchdowns, and he still has two games to play.  No word on how many games Charlie Weis has left, however.

Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate says he is not thinking about the NFL, only finishing out his season with the Irish.  "Right now, I try to think about the team and this season," Tate said. "I'm sure (coach Charlie Weis) and I and my family will address this when the time is appropriate. Right now, I'm playing for Notre Dame."

This is a pretty standard response from players this time of year. Tate will be one of the many players we highlight in an upcoming early entry piece.

Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate was not fazed by the return of Michael Floyd, catching nine passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Both of them are must starts the rest of the way. Tate has at least one touchdown in five consecutive games.

With reports that Michael Floyd may be ready to play next week, it will be interesting to see how that affects Tate's dominance since Floyd was injured.

Check Tate's last three games: 28 receptions, 489 yards and five touchdowns.  He has Washington State next week, so this should continue.

Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate caught eight balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to USC.

Not quite as impressive as his 244 yard effort his last time out, but he continues to pick up the slack in the absence of Michael Floyd.

Notre Dame WR Golden Tate saved the day catching a 33 yard TD pass from Jimmy Clausen with 5:18 to go in the game as ND held on to beat Michigan State 33-30.

Tate finished with 7 receptions for 127 yards and a TD, but Michael Floyd went down with a broken collarbone to make it bittersweet.   We won't be seeing Floyd on the field quite possibly until the end of the season if at all.  More news on this as the week progresses.
