Tulsa fullback Charles Clay was his team's leading rusher against UTEP with nine carries for 57 yards but also caught three passes for 42 yards and a score.
While Clay does not always consistently perform, the man knows how to reach the end zone and therefore is a perfect flex play. Sun, Nov 21, 2010 09:45:00 AM

Charles Clay plays a bit of everything for Tulsa as he lines up at fullback, tight end, and sometimes even defensive end. Against Tulane, Clay made his presence felt in the passing game as he hauled in four catches for a team high 86 yards and two scores.

A few years ago, Clay caught balls for over 1,000 yards. While he will not reach that plateau this year, he is certainly valuable in flex leagues with his stellar receiving skills.

Against Bowling Green, Charles Clay was the team's leading receiver and rusher with two carries for 37 yards and four catches for 61 yards and a score.

Clay is starting to become a favorite target for quarterback G.J. Kinne and he's one to monitor or grab off the waiver wire.

Tulsa head coach Todd Graham has been so impressed with the athleticism and size of H-backs Charles Clay and Willie Carter that he is planning to use them as rush ends on defense from time to time.  Clay played a couple downs at defensive end last year and even recorded a sack against UAB.

Clay will be a nice weapon on offense and if he can help get the offense back on the field by playing defense, it is all the better.

Tulsa coach Todd Graham has been tickled pink with H-back Charles Clay, calling him "special" and then saying, "he's had an unbelievable spring and is having a great fall."

Tulsa World reports that Clay will share duties with Willie Carter, though it's clear that Clay will see the majority of playing time. He's a great option in all-120 leagues.

Tulsa coach Todd Graham said that the team plans on emphasizing the run a bit more this season. Then he mentioned the need to "spread the wealth" and tossed out the names of six different running backs, including Jamad Williams and Charles Clay.

No big news on emphasizing the run as I think Graham is now the 120th D-1 coach to mention that this summer. However there aren't six viable fantasy backs at run-happy Georgia Tech, let alone Tulsa. Move along if you're looking for help in the backfield.

Tulsa running back Charles Clay scored on a snap from the "wildcat" spot last week, but he was a little too soft-spoken when calling out the cadence.

Clay, whose inconsistent production drives owners crazy, becomes a more intriguing start if he starts seeing regular direct snaps.

Tulsa fullback Charles Clay had four touchdowns in Saturday's one-point loss to Houston. Clay had 68 yards and two touchdowns on his only two receptions and 27 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

Though Clay did not garner high yardage statistics, his touchdown numbers of the season more than doubled. The junior has become a more integral piece of the Hurricane offense in recent weeks, averaging 12 plays per game in his last three contests.

Despite only touching the ball 11 times, Tulsa running back/fullback Charles Clay scored four touchdowns, two through the air.

Clay is a tough back to peg, but he has shown a knack for the end zone over his career.

Tulsa running back Charles Clay rushed for a season-high 84 yards and 16 carries in the loss to UTEP on Wednesday night.  Clay also rushed for a touchdown and caught 4 passes for 74 yards.

Clay has been hindered by an undisclosed injury all year and with Tulsa's inability to keep defenders off quarterback G.J. Kinne's back, they'd be wise to feed the big running back/fullback now that he appears to be healthy.

"I was very excited about getting back into the swing of things. It seems like it's been a while," Tulsa running back Charles Clay said after catching seven passes in week five against Rice.

All signs are pointing to Clay getting healthy, especially coming off a bye week.  While we wouldn't start him, Clay is definitely one to watch this week against Boise State.  If he gets significant carries, it will be a good sign that he is healthy for the stretch run.

Tulsa World's Mike Brown said Tulsa running back Charles Clay "seemed more himself at Rice after being slowed by nagging injuries over the first four weeks of the season."

If that is the case, it will be welcome news for Tulsa and fantasy owners.  Clay was one of our top rated backs during the preseason and we'd like to see what he can do when healthy.

In his weekly press conference, Tulsa coach Todd Graham talked about the injuries plaguing his team:  "I'm hopeful this week that we'll get our guys back, for the most part. That's hurt us. Losing Charles Davis was tough. We've missed Tyler Holmes and Clint Anderson. We haven't had Charles Clay healthy all year. Jamad Williams... Damaris (Johnson) was banged up after the last game. We need to get him back 100 percent and the big thing about that with guys being beat up and hurt - how do you get better? You practice."

Unfortunately none of the reporters in attendance thought to ask a follow-up question to Graham regarding the status of Charles Clay or what is ailing Damaris Johnson.  Instead they opted to lob the typical Nerf balls about how dangerous their next opponent(s) can be.

Tulsa running backs Charles Clay and Jamad Williams got a rest Saturday against Sam Houston State to recover from undisclosed injuries.

Both Clay and Williams played in the contest, but were used sparingly.

Tulsa World reports that Tulsa running back Charles Clay may miss today's game due to an injury.

Clay, whom Eric Bailey reports hasn't been healthy all year, has struggled to get rolling, and it appears that this week may not be the week he does so, even with Sam Houston State on tap.  This explains Clay's lack of touches the last two weeks.
