Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis looked terrific as he easily pieced apart the Gold team defense to the tune of 326 yards passing and three scores. Kelvin Bolden was the top receiving option as the skinny speedster hauled in eight balls for 137 yards. With Kendrick Hardy sidelined with a hamstring injury, Desmond Johnson led the ground game with 12 carries for 119 yards and two scores.

Davis is once again a top level fantasy option while Bolden could very well reach the 1,000 yard mark.

Davis is a fantasy star and still has another year in Hattiesburg which makes him a premier quarterback for next year.

Davis started off slow but is rolling right now.  He is worth a filler spot on any roster.

Davis has been a bit of a disappointment this year so it is best to keep him off your roster despite this impressive performance.

If you take a look at Austin Davis' yardage, his numbers are not that impressive until you keep looking to the right of the stat sheet and notice his trips to the endzone.  Davis threw for just 164 yards and rushed for just 18 yards but he also threw for a touchdown and rushed for three touchdowns.

Davis is good at spreading the ball around and should be considered a decent QB3 in deeper leagues.

Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis was the centerpiece of 56 total plays as the Golden Eagles nipped Louisiana Tech.  Davis completed 22-of-38 passes for 233 yards, one touchdown, and one pick while also accounting for 18 rushes for another 69 yards.

One would expect better against the Bulldogs, but you have to love a player that leads his team in passing and rushing.

Southern Mississippi quarterback Austin Davis went 18-of-23 for 151 passing yards to go with 61 rushing yards and a short TD run in a win over Kansas.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a big lead thanks to a trick play and a TD off of a blocked punt, so Davis didn't need to air it out much in this one.  Look for bigger fantasy numbers next week against Louisiana Tech as well as when C-USA play begins.

Austin Davis appears to have a firm grip on the starting quarterback job at Southern Miss, and Martevious Young appears to be accepting his role as the backup.  “I know all I’ve got do is stay focused and be ready for when my time comes," Young said.  "Maybe I’ll give Austin a break and I’ll just be ready to go in and play.”

Davis' draft value has been hurt a bit due to his absence from spring ball and the emergence of Young. Those that took a shot at him will likely have gotten a steal.  We still expect Young to see some snaps now and then, however.

Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis looked like his old self during the team's scrimmage, throwing for 217 yards on 18-of-26 passing and three touchdowns.  Davis is competing hard against Martevious Young for the starting job this season.  Young finished with 6-of-10 passing for 74 yards.

This is going to be a hotly-contested battle to watch as either quarterback is a nice QB1 option in most leagues.

"It's going to be a tremendous competition," Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora said of the looming quarterback competition between Austin Davis and Martevious Young.

Davis, who is coming off foot surgery, would appear to hold the slight lead.  But as we've warned, Young has looked good and anything can happen. Be careful when drafting Davis this summer and watch fall camp closely.

“I’m at about 70 percent right now,” Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis said about his foot. “I’m still pretty limited on drop-backs and I can’t really roll out right now. But when I’m out there, I’m taking mental reps constantly.”

Davis' inability to go full-speed this spring will further fuel the battle between him and Martevious Young.  We probably won't know until August whether or not Davis has won his starting job back.
