Tight end David Paulson has been a quiet leader for Oregon – and a dependable pass catcher.
Paulson, along with freshman running back De’Anthony Thomas, shared teams honors as Oregon’s most outstanding players. Thomas had a very productive freshman season while Paulson’s recognition speaks to his quiet leadership and example setting. Not that he had bad season statistically with 30 receptions for 428 yards and 6 TDs, numbers that are right up there among the nation’s tight ends. The Rose Bowl will be his last game as a Duck. All Pac-12 TE David Paulson, who left Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury, still projects to play a major role in Oregon's offense this season.

The Ducks appear to be bringing back the dual tight end formations they used exclusively with Ed Dickson in 2009. "We have not forgotten about David," coach Chip Kelly said. "Sometimes, it’s just about how the game plays itself out." Freshman TE Colt Lyerla (6-5/225) projects as the 1B to Paulson's 1A. Lyerla had two touchdowns in limited action Saturday vs Missouri State.
