Play of backups reveals how far ahead starting quarterback Tevin Washington is.

Washington had his ups and downs in his first season running Paul Johnson’s option offense. He completed a shade less than half his passes with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Over the last seven regular season games, six of which were conference affairs, he was 0/7. While he piled up 987 yards and 14 TDs on the ground, a little more efficiency through the air would be a good thing. Washington has had a strong spring while backups Synjyn Days and Vad Lee have not proved to be a threat to seriously compete with Washington as the starter.

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson says starting quarterback Tevin Washington needs to continue to improve or he will fall on the depth chart.

Johnson was speaking to the competition that awaits Washington this spring. The coach was complimentary of Washington's play last season, but the reality is there are a couple of QBs that are chomping at the bit to take over. That will force Washington to get better -- or fall from No. 1. In running Johnson's triple-option last season, Washington completed only 49.3 percent of his passes for 1,652 yards and 11/8. He rushed for for 987 yards and 14 TDs.

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington threw for 185 yards and ran for 136 in a 38-31 win at Duke.

Washington’s 321 total yards marked a season high and it was the fourth time – all in the last six weeks – that he had 100 yards rushing. A 39-yard run in the fourth quarter gives Washington 10 TDs on the ground in the past five games.

Quarterback Tevin Washington posted 176 yards on 25 rushes and a touchdown to upset No. 5 Clemson on Saturday.

The junior only attempted 9 passes on the day but ran all over the Clemson defense. Though he had an interception, Washington made up for it with his legs, rushing for a 3-yard touchdown. Washington has scored a touchdown one way or another in every game for the Yellow Jackets this season, and his one score Saturday led GT to a big conference upset.

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington ran for a season-high 120 yards and 2 TDs a 21-16 win over Maryland.

The yards were not easy. Washington, who struggled through the air, had a career-high 32 rushing attempts -- and they were all pure rushing attempts as he was not sacked on the day. While passing is secondary in coach Paul Johnson's offense, Washington was only 6-of-19 for 114 yards and one INT.

Georgia Tech QB Tevin Washington rushed for 74 yards on 25 attempts, and added 184 passing yards in the team's 35-28 win over North Carolina.

"I knew I was going to have to make some plays in the running game," said Washington. "Just making sure I didn't try to do too much and just do my job." Washington was heavily involved in Paul Johnson's offensive gameplan, seeing 35 of the team's 79 total plays. An underrated passer, his 8:1 TD-INT ratio and 19.6 yards per attempt would lead the ACC if not for his unqualified status. Operating primarily out of the triple-option, his three touchdown performance gives him a total of twelve on the year.

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington ran for 131 yards on 28 attempts, and added 41 yards through the air in a loss to Air Force.

He was picked off on the 'Jackets last play of the game, and laid on the field for some time prior to walking off.  Washington was every bit as good as Josh Nesbitt as a runner down the stretch, and showed much better touch on his throws than his predecessor.  He heads into 2011 as the presumed starter, and has tons of upside.

Continuing to fill in for injured quarterback Josh Nesbitt, Georgia Tech freshman Tevin Washington threw for 90 yards and a score, while also rushing for 94 yards and another touchdown.

Washington fits in just fine in Atlanta, and should be drafted next season similarly to where you drafted Nesbitt this year.  This kid has a bright future.

Making his first career start, Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington threw for 101 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 122 yards against Miami.

Not a bad showing for the rookie, and though it's a small sample size, the 'Jacket offense looks like it will be just fine for the rest of the season and beyond.  Maybe its the system and not the player, huh?

With starting quarterback Josh Nesbitt sitting the spring out (ankle), Tevin Washington appears to have cemented his status as the backup and heir apparent to the Rambling Wreck signal caller, as he accounted for four scores in today's spring contest.

Three rushing touchdowns and a 70-yard pass certainly scream it's the system and not the player here. Washington rushed ten times for 35 yards and completed 6-of-7 passes for 122 yards. With the physical demands of Paul Johnson's option offense, Washington is a must-own handcuff for Nesbitt owners, and those in keeper leagues would be wise to draft and stash here.
