Baylor’s new football stadium will feature a statue of former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III.
A 9.5-foot bronze statue of RGIII will stand in McLane Stadium's south end zone plaza, honoring the school’s only Heisman Trophy winner. Baylor isn't discussing the statue, nor has it released pictures, building anticipation for the stadium's unveiling in the August 31 opener against SMU. Heisman winner Robert Griffin III announced Wednesday that he will enter the NFL draft.

Reports had surfaced that Griffin would turn pro and the quarterback made it official on Wednesday afternoon. Griffin, who set or tied 54 school records, threw for 4,293 yards and 37 touchdowns while setting a NCAA record for highest single-season passer rating at 189.5. He also ran for 699 yards and 10 TDs.

Griffin earned 43 first-place votes to easily beat out Stanford QB Andrew Luck, who had 7. Griffin, who won the Heisman and Davey O’Brien (best quarterback) awards, will lead 9-3 Baylor into the Alamo Bowl against Washington on Dec. 29. The nation’s leader in pass efficiency is second in all-purpose yards with 4,642 for an average of 387 per game.

The Associated Press announced its All-America teams on Tuesday and Baylor QB Robert Griffin III again beat out Stanford's Andrew Luck for the top prize.

Griffin was the first-teamer and Heisman runner-up Luck was named to the second team. USC's Matt Barkley copped third-team honors.

Griffin completed his late push and won the sport's highest award for the 2011 season. Griffin III was second in the country in total yards per game with 386.8 per contest. The junior totaled 45 touchdowns this season and threw for 3,998 yards on the year. RG3 is also on pace to set an NCAA record for passing efficiency, with an average 192.3. Griffin gained status as a candidate during his last game against No. 22 Texas, in which he scored four total touchdowns in the rout.

The final Scripps Poll prior to Saturday’s Heisman ceremony has Robert Griffin III at the top with a two-point margin over Stanford’s Andrew Luck.

Griffin received six of the 10 first-place votes with Luck garnering three and Trent Richardson one. The Scripps Poll has correctly picked the Heisman winner in its final poll 20 of the 24 years.

If this is his final season at Baylor, Griffin will have gone full cycle as far as Big 12 awards. The QB was named the conference’s Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2008. As for 2011, among other outstanding numbers, Griffin leads the nation in pass efficiency (192.31) and is second with 4,642 total yards (387 per game). He has also accounted for 45 touchdowns.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III threw for 320 yards and had 2 TDs throwing and rushing in a 48-24 win over visiting Texas.

Griffin got his final Heisman push started early when he threw a 59-yard TD pass to Kendall Wright 22 seconds into the game. Trailing 21-17 in the third quarter, Griffin and the Bears took over with the junior accounting for three of his touchdowns during a 34-3 run. Griffin was 15-of-22 for 320 yards and 2/1 while adding 32 yards and a pair of scores rushing. He completed the regular season throwing for 3,898 yards and 36/6. He also ran for nine TDs.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is showing no ill effects from a hit to the head he absorbed last week against Texas Tech.

Everything checked out well for the Heisman candidate during practice Wednesday as he and the Bears prepared for Texas on Saturday. Griffin took the hit late in the opening half against the Red Raiders and sat out the second half, though he said he could have played. With 390 yards per game, Griffin is second nationally to Houston's Case Keenum (397) in total offense. He has accounted for 41 TDs, 34 via the air.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III says there is "no doubt" that he will play against Texas on Saturday.

Griffin took a hard hit to the head late in the first half of the Bears' 66-42 win over Texas Tech. Griffin did not play the second half, but he felt he could have. The magical QB goes into the season finale against the Longhorns having accounted for 4,290 yards and 41 TDs.

Griffin's abbreviated evening resulted in 168 total yards and 3 TDs, 2 on the ground. He was replaced by junior Nick Florence, who last saw action in last year's Texas Bowl.

Robert Griffin, who totaled 551 yards, connected with Terrance Williams from 34 yards out with eight seconds remaining to give Baylor a 45-38 win over visiting Oklahoma.

The Bears finally beat Oklahoma after losing all 20 previous meetings. And it took some serious late-night magic from Griffin. The Baylor quarterback re-entered the Heisman race after completing 21-of-34 for 479 yards and 4/0. If that’s not enough, he added 18-72 on the ground, including a couple of key runs on the game-winning drive. It was Griffin’s fourth 400-yard game in the last five weeks and it was the fourth time this season he has thrown at least 4 TDs -- giving him 33 on the season.

Robert Griffin III threw for 312 yards and ran for 103 in Baylor’s 31-30 overtime victory at Kansas.

Griffin accounted for three (2 passing) fourth-quarter touchdowns to bring the Bears back from a 24-3 deficit. Griffin’s 14-yard TD pass to Tevin Reese and subsequent PAT was the difference. Griffin was 22-of-29 for 312 yards and 3/1 through the air and 10-103-1 on the ground. The 3 TD passes give Griffin 29 on the season.
