Panthers selected Oregon RB Kenjon Barner with the No. 182 overall pick.
Barner (5-foot-9 1/4, 196) was the workhorse in Chip Kelly's 2012 offense, rushing 278 times for 1,767 yards (6.36 YPC) and 21 touchdowns. He added 20 catches for 256 yards (12.8 YPR) and two more scores. Despite his smallish stature, Barner falls forward and isn't a step-waster, also flashing an ability to run through arm tackles. He's more straight-linish than elusive and isn't going to make NFL defenders miss. Barner ran 4.52 at the Combine with a 1.60 ten-yard split. Perhaps he is being brought in as a kick returner, but Carolina adding another running back is somewhat comical. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 04:23:00 PM

Oregon RB Kenjon Barner does not anticipate a 2010 concussion impacting his 2013 NFL Draft stock.

Barner's concussion is particularly notable because he was literally knocked unconscious and missed the next three weeks of the season, including a bye week. "That was three years ago," Barner insisted. "I haven't had a concussion since then so I don't feel like that's too much of a problem." We see Barner as a superior prospect to LaMichael James, but still a middle-round prospect.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner rushed for 143 yards on 31 carries against Kansas State.

He added one reception that resulted in a 24 yard touchdown. Barner easily received the most carries on the team in his final collegiate game, and although he broke some runs to the outside to find a second level alley, the senior looked indecisive on inside runs that were well defended at the point of attack.

Oregon RB Kenjon Barner will attend the Senior Bowl.

This invitation is expected and the week in Mobile will be critical for Barner. The senior is used to plenty of running a lot of read options and bouncing runs to the outside. We will focus on how he reacts when his lane is closed, but if given a seam Barner does not mind running between the tackles.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler tweeted he is not convinced that Oregon senior Kenjon Barner is a top-10 RB in April's Draft.

This was in response to some having Barner as this year's top senior back. It is only November, so the full list of draftable running backs is not available at this time. For comparison, LaMichael James was the fifth running back selected last April and was a late second-round pick.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries Saturday against Oregon State.

Berner was sidelined with a hurt hip or abdomen for a few series, but returned in good form. The senior made many big plays running along the sideline, something that will be much more difficult int he NFL, but if given a lane between the tackle Barner fires through it.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah states that he has not talked to one scout that considers Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner a top two round prospect.

This does not mean he won't go there, but Jeremiah is a well connected former Scout, so that high of a selection is unlikely. We would agree with this train of thought, and although Barner can make plays happen between the tackles coupled with excellent straight-line speed, he struggles to create when his initial line is blocked off.

Oregon athletic director Mike Bellotti believes it is "just inevitable" that head coach Chip Kelly will eventually be in the NFL.

"It actually surprised me he changed his mind [with the Bucs] last year," Bellotti admitted. An unnamed source close to Kelly added, "There are nine chances in 10 if he wins out [this season] he’s gone." Although some may say so, Kelly does not run a gimmicky offense, in fact many of his ideas are base NFL plays at a much faster pace. Many teams will certainly inquire about his services at the end of the season, and we would put the Jaguars, Chiefs, Browns, and possibly the Panthers on that list.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner rushed for 321 yards and five touchdowns on 38 carries Saturday against USC.

He added two receptions for 26 yards. Barner has always split touches and carries during his collegiate career, so it is nice to see him have a breakout style performance. Unlike some speedy runners, Barner isn't scared to stay between the tackle with clear lanes, but he does tend to bounce it outside when his alley is blocked.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries Saturday against Colorado.

He added two receptions for 47 yards. The Ducks were scoring at will, but Barner looked good doing it. The senior broke a few arm tackles but continued to do his best work by out running defenders along the sideline.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner collected 143 rushing yards on 16 carries, resulting in three touchdowns, Thursday night against Arizona State.

Barner outran the defense between the tackles and on the edge, using hesitation moves and lateral quicks to breakdown tacklers then burn them with straight-line speed. Two of Barner's touchdowns came from one yard out, so it was good to see him pick up the tough yards.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner tallied 122 rushing yards on 20 carries in Saturday's game against Washington.

This comes on the heels of a 195 rushing yard, three touchdown performance the previous week. Barner has three straight games of 20 carries and has consistently produced, however, he loves breaking runs to the sideline and using his straight-line speed to run away from defenses. Those kind of runs are much more difficult in the NFL.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner did it all against Washington State on Saturday, rushing for 195 yards on 20 carries to go along with three touchdowns.

Barner added another touchdown off of 37 yards on three receptions, the longest of which came on a wheel route out of the backfield where the senior walked into the endzone. The Ducks are so good at zone and slant blocking that Barner frequently only has to make one cut to go the distance, but his obvious straight-line speed is appealing.

Oregon senior RB Kenjon Barner flew through Fresno State's defense on the way to 201 rushing yards on 34 carries and three touchdowns.

Barner also added three receptions for 21 yards. The carry number is quite high, but the senior showed the willingness to keep his shoulder over his toes between the tackles and in trash. Barner is a burner, especially on the team's read option, and will continue to see the majority of the Ducks' carries.

If Oregon senior Kenjon Barner can handle an increased workload, CBS Sports' Rob Rang believes the RB should be a top 100 selection in April.

Citing the vision and acceleration to "turn a routine carry or reception into a game-changer," Barner offers home run skills that offenses covet. He certainly lacks the size to be a full time ball carrier in the NFL, but in short spurts Barner can be used as an ace in the hole out of the backfield and in the return game. However, just like his predecessor LaMichael James, Barner will have to remain healthy, but his 5'11/195 pound frame is a good start.
