USC senior RB Curtis McNeal will start over junior Silas Redd Saturday against Arizona State.

McNeal has been relegated to backup duty for weeks after losing his starting spot to Redd. However, the latter has had fumbling issues this season and the senior may be a more reliable ball carrier.

Running back Curtis McNeal ran for 148 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown in the Trojans' 40-17 win over Washington.

McNeal got the lion's share of the carries, though Marc Tyler did a have a touchdown as well. McNeal averaged 8.1 yards per carry on the day, aided by a 79-yard scamper to the end zone in the third quarter. This is the fifth-straight game in which the junior has gotten at least 10 carries in the game, and he seems to be making good use of his increased role.

Curtis McNeal will start at running back for the Trojans against Colorado on Friday night.

With Marc Tyler hurting, McNeal is the only veteran Lane Kiffin can turn to. With George Farmer also banged up, Kiffin’s concern will be depth against the Buffaloes. But McNeal has shown he can carry the load, something he will have to do in Boulder on Friday night. After only 24 carries in his first five games, McNeal had 61 totes the last three contests and he is coming off a robust 20-145-2 against Stanford.

With Marc Tyler doubtful for Notre Dame, junior Curtis McNeal could start for the first time.

McNeal had only 24 carries in five games heading into last Thursday night’s contest against Cal. After Tyler exited with a separated shoulder early in the second half, McNeal had the bulk of the work and finished with season highs for carries (17), yards (86) and scored his first touchdown of the season.

USC redshirt freshman running back Curtis McNeal has been impressive in workouts.

The diminutive McNeal may not make much of a fantasy impact in 2009, but he may be a big play producer in a very short time. Think Jacquizz Rodgers-like, but with a lot of guys ahead of him on the depth chart.
