Colorado running back Rodney Stewart returned to practice and could play Friday night against USC.

A lot will depend how Stewart responds during practice, but in a season in which a player or two seems to be lost every week, it is refreshing to those in Boulder – not the least of which is coach Jon Embree -- that players are returning. Stewart suffered a knee sprain at Washington on Oct. 15 and missed the last two games. The senior has 473 yards rushing and 435 receiving this season and 3,217 yards rushing for his career.

Colorado running back Rodney Stewart will miss 2-4 weeks with a knee sprain.

It's another blow for first-year coach Jon Embree. With Stewart, he is losing his most talented and productive offensive player for what hopefully will be the low end of the range of time missed. The senior had 1,169 all-purpose yards this season and more than 3,200 for his career. Redshirt freshman Tony Jones will be the No. 1 tailback against visiting Oregon on Saturday.

The injury was sustained in a loss to Washington on Saturday and any time Stewart misses would be crucial. He is the school’s No. 2-career rusher and he does so much more. Stewart has 473 rushing yards this season giving him 3,217 for his career. He is also 28-435 receiving and has 261 return yards.

Colorado workhorse back Rodney Stewart toted the ball 34 times for 195 yards and two scores in Saturday's win over Kansas State.

Stewart outran the more-ballyhooed Wildcat, Daniel Thomas, and in doing so he went over 1200 yards on the ground and posted touchdowns #9 and 10. He's been among the most overlooked backs all season.

Colorado workhorse Rodney Stewart carried the ball 19 times for 85 yards as the Buffs were overwhelmed by the Oklahoma Sooners.

Stewart remains a reliable fantasy factor because he sees it about 20 times a game, however it's not wise to invest in the Colorado offense.

Colorado running back Rodney Stewart could only muster 34 yards on 20 carries as Texas Tech shut down the Buffs' ground attack on Saturday.

Stewart's longest run was an eight-yard scamper, which means he averaged a little over one yard on his other 19 carries. Stewart had been a consistent producer coming into this one, so we'll chalk it up as a one-week aberration.

Stewart is a good college running back running for a bad college team. He's a risky start due to the anemic Buff offense.

Colorado running back Rodney Stewart had 22 carries for 106 rushing yards and two TDS in a win over Hawaii.  He added two catches for nine yards but did lose a fumble.

Stewart and the Buffs took advantage of an awful Hawaii run defense.  This was easily his best game of the season, but he's not a great start against Georgia next week.

Colorado running back Rodney Stewart saw 29 carries but managed just 80 yards against Cal in a blowout loss.

Stewart saw a heavy workload, but the whole Colorado offense was out of sync and played from behind throughout.  There's no one to steal carries from him, so he'll continue to see 20-plus carries per game.  He's a mid-level option against Hawaii next week.
