UCLA running back Derrick Coleman is more than just a bruising back as he has shown a number of times this season.
At 6-1 and 240 pounds, Coleman has run over his share of defenders in short-yardage situations in his four years as a Bruin. Coleman, however, is much more as his three 100-yard games and 11 touchdowns this season would attest. Thu, Nov 10, 2011 11:26:00 AM

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman had nine carries for 42 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Arizona.

Coleman is ninth in the Pac 10 with 58.3 rushing yards per game but don't be fooled.  He had 185 and three touchdowns in one game against Washington State and otherwise he has been held in check.  The running game figures to suffer going forward and he probably isn't worth being used unless you are absolutely desperate.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman had 15 carries for a career-high 185 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Washington State.  His 72-yard run in the fourth quarter helped the Bruins put the game away.

Coleman came into the game with zero 100-yard games in his career and only four touchdowns.  Safe to say it was a career night for the backup.  He will continue to hold value in Pac 10 only leagues with the way the Bruins run the football.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman had 16 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown in the win over Texas.  He had missed the previous game with a sprained neck.

Coleman is now behind the surging Johnathan Franklin on the depth chart but still carved out a nice game against the Longhorns.  The Bruins appear to be a run-only offense which should help make Coleman fantasy relevant.  He could be a nice bye week fill-in against Washington State next weekend if you are in need.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman (concussion, neck) is expected to be cleared for contact Wednesday.

Coleman started the first two games, but Jonathan Franklin had a breakout performance against Houston rushing for 158 yards and three scores.  It will be interesting to see how the two are utilized this week against Texas.  Neither is a good start.

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel said he expects running back Derrick Coleman back for this weekend's game against Texas.

Coleman missed Saturday's game with a sprained neck and had to watch Johnathan Franklin run for 158 yards and three touchdowns.  Coleman will get some carries if he is healthy, but he can't be counted on in fantasy leagues.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman was released from the hospital late last night after CT scans and X-rays came back normal.  He has been diagnosed with a sprained neck and a concussion.

Coleman was carted off the field Saturday night on a stretcher after taking a blow to the head.  Head injuries can linger for weeks if not months so don't expect him back anytime soon.  This injury should open the door for Malcolm Jones to see more carries.

UCLA RB Derrick Coleman was carted off the field on a stretcher tonight after taking a blow to the head.  He had six carries for 23 yards before being injured.

He is undergoing precautionary x-rays at a local hospital.  All early indications are that he had feeling and sensation in all four limbs and he should be alright.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman had six carries for 64 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's spring game.

It was a rough day for UCLA's offense so it was nice to see someone have a good day.  Norm Chow did state that Coleman would be the starter if the season started today.  He might be a sleeper but keep in mind the Bruins have two stud freshman that will join the team this fall that could supplant him in the backfield.

UCLA running back Derrick Coleman will get the start at running back on Saturday against Washington State.

I don't think we have to remind everyone that Washington State has the worst rushing defense in the BCS.  Coleman is a bruiser who ran the ball hard last year before getting dinged up.

Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times reports that the UCLA Bruins have actually seen some positive things from their ground attack this spring, providing hope that the unit can improve on its 112 (out of 119) ranking from a season ago.

Improved line play is expected, giving hope that a back like Christian Ramirez, Derrick Coleman or Aundre Dean can emerge as a fantasy factor.
