Falcons selected Duke QB Sean Renfree with the No. 249 overall pick.
Renfree (6-3, 219) succeeded Thad Lewis under center at Duke and started three seasons for QBs guru David Cutcliffe, completing 64.7 percent of his throws with a 50:40 TD-to-INT ratio. Renfree tore the pectoral muscle in his right (throwing) arm in the Blue Devils' bowl loss to Cincinnati, but should be ready for camp. He's drawn Matt Hasselbeck and Matt Schaub comparisons as a heady if modest-armed passer with accuracy and anticipation. Rotoworld draft columnist Alen Dumonjic studied Renfree on tape and believes he could grow into an NFL starter. Developing behind Matt Ryan will be a big plus. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 07:23:00 PM

NFL Network's Mike Mayock says that Duke QB Sean Renfree "might surprise us all."

"Find a spot," Mayock said. "I mean, in this entire group of quarterbacks this year, by far [he] throws with more anticipation and timing than anybody else. Now, part of the reason is, at best, he has an average arm, so throughout his life he's had to learn to get rid of the football more quickly, anticipate more quickly. I think he's quicker mentally." Renfree is a fan of ours too, especially our own Alen Dumonjic. Dumonjic feels that Renfree has upside and is worthy of a fourth-round selection.

Duke QB Sean Renfree continued to generate positive buzz, this time from Chris Mortensen on SportsCenter.

David Cutcliffe believes Renfree could be "the steal of this draft," according to Mort. Cutcliffe was Renfree's college coach, but Peter King and Mel Kiper recently singled out the Blue Devil in prior weeks. We doubt he works out at the Combine due to a torn pectoral muscle suffered in the team's final game.

SI's Peter King singled out Duke's Sean Renfree as one QB that might not be getting enough attention.

"No one's talking about him, but he completed 70 percent of his throws in six of 12 games for David Cutcliffe last fall, was a comeback specialist, and has the pedigree in a good pro-style offense to play early," King writes. "Could he be more than a late-round flyer, this year's Ryan Lindley? We'll see." Renfree tore his right pectoral muscle on the final play of Duke's bowl game, so we doubt he will throw or workout out at the Combine.

ESPN's Mel Kiper named Duke's Sean Renfree as a potential sleeper quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Renfree finished his college career with a 64.6 completion rate, 50 touchdown passes, and 40 interceptions. "I like the fact that (Renfree) has size, I like his arm," said Kiper. "I like that he was with David Cutcliffe for five years. (Cutcliffe) tutored Peyton and Eli Manning and is known as a quarterback guru. Renfree took Duke to a bowl game for the first time since 1994, Renfree did. He’s a Matt Hasselbeck, Matt Schaub type to me so I like Renfree in the fifth-round area."

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree tore his right pectoral on his final collegiate pass against Cincinnati.

Renfree was expected to attend the East-West Shrine game, but this injury will likely hold him out of the event. The senior has already undergone surgery to fix the issue, but it is unknown if he will be healthy enough to participate in the pre-draft process.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree completed 37-of-49 for 358 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions Thursday against Cincinnati.

Renfree looked great for most of the game, but his two interceptions were killers, and the last one sealed Duke's fate in the losing column. With a chance of being drafted, Renfree will need to put together a solid week of practice during East-West Shrine Game. We do like his high release point and touch on downfield throws.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree will attend the East-West Shrine Game.

Renfree missed a few games due to an injury to his throwing elbow but put forth a fairly solid season. The senior likes to shuffle and move quite a bit in the pocket while making his reads, but does find second and third options at times despite the happy feet.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree will play Saturday against Clemson despite suffering from flu-like symptoms and a concussion last week.

Renfree participated in non-contact drills on Tuesday and Wednesday, and was a full go on Thursday. Clemson has a couple pass rushers that can generate pressure, but Renfree has done well to get rid of the ball quickly.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree's status is uncertain for Saturday's game against Clemson.

Renfree was running a high free prior to the Florida State game and took a big hit that was later diagnosed as a concussion. The senior did not practice Monday and it was not disclosed if that changed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree is listed as probable for Saturday's game against Virginia Tech.

Renfree returned to practice this week after undergoing an MRI on his throwing elbow. He missed the Virginia game, but the Blue Devils have won their last four contest in fairly convincing fashion. We would expect Renfree to start, but nothing has been officially announced.

Duke starting senior QB Sean Renfree returned to practice this week following an injury to his throwing elbow suffered against Virginia.

Head coach David Cutcliffe has remained noncomittal on if Renfree will start, or even play, Saturday against Virginia Tech. Sophomore Anthony Boone has been splitting reps with Renfree in practice, but we believe the senior will draw the start if healthy enough.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against Virginia due to his injured throwing elbow.

Renfree underwent an MRI earlier this week but no results were reported, which may be a good thing since nothing that required surgery seemed to be found. Despite the lack of talent around him, Renfree has played well this season and has led Duke to a 4-1 record.

Duke senior QB Sean Renfree underwent an MRI on his injured throwing elbow on Sunday and his status for Saturday's game against Virginia is in doubt.

Despite the lack of talent around him, Renfree has played well this season and has led Duke to a 4-1 record. The senior is generating 7.6 yards per attempt on 1,282 passing yards, along with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He is likely a priority free agent talent.

Duke quarterback Sean Renfree's record day propelled by a mind-set he needs to carry through the remainder of the season.

Following an indifferent start in which the Blue Devils lost to Richmond and were pounded by Stanford, Renfree cut loose at Boston College. He needed some prodding, however, as he showed hesitancy in the first two games. He did not turn the ball over in the losses, but he failed to create anything. Against BC, he let it hang and wound up setting an all-time Duke record with what is now officially 41 completions. With Tulane and tough FIU next, Duke could be above .500 before Florida State comes to Durham on Oct. 15.
