Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz reiterated that he will continue to stick with senior James Vandenberg at QB.
"We all believe in James," Ferentz said. "I think I speak for everybody involved in our program, team and coaches." Vandenberg has not looked good this season, but the same could be said for the entire Hawkeyes offense. The senior is completing 56 percent of his passes, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt, to go along with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Vandenberg's lack of benching may say more about the back up quarterback talent Iowa has, or lack there of. Wed, Oct 24, 2012 12:11:00 PM

New OC Greg Davis has installed a number of packages and formations that provide for a new look schematically. The offense is also new in the sense that a number of younger players are being heavily counted on to carry out the game plan. Perhaps it’s a good thing that the studious Vandenberg, who will be a fifth-year senior, is at the controls. He had a solid 2011 throwing for 3,022 yards with 25 touchdowns and only 7 INTs.

Iowa QB James Vandenberg completed 31-of-48 passes for 399 yards and three touchdowns in a come-from-behind victory over Pittsburgh.

The Panthers led by as much as 19 points. Vandenberg moved the chains effectively in the final quarter, throwing all three of his touchdowns and capping the victory on a 22 yard strike to Martin-Manley with under three remaining. The win marks the biggest comeback in Iowa history and improves their record to 2-0 at home. The Hawkeyes play host to Louisiana-Monroe in Week 4.
