As fall approaches, several running backs are vying for playing time under new head coach Jerry Kill at Minnesota.  Duane Bennett and DeLeon Eskridge are the most experienced but are being pushed by youngsters Donnell Kirkwood and Lamonte Edwards.  Kirkwood is looking to drop some weight while Edwards has the best power and speed blend on the team.
Bennett and Eskridge were recruited for Tim Brewster's foray into the spread offense but have bulked up for the return to a power running game.  While the offense should be conducive to some fantasy production, it seems as if this could be a committee approach. Fri, Apr 15, 2011 03:23:00 AM

Minnesota running back DeLeon Eskridge could only muster 49 yards on 18 carries, but he did score three touchdowns in an upset win over Illinois.

Simply put, Eskridge is not a fantasy option unless you have hit rock bottom.

Minnesota running back DeLeon Eskridge ran 23 times for 79 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Ohio State.

Eskridge has clearly taken over the starting tailback position at Minnesota, but is no better than a RB3 for your BCS squad.

Minnesota running back DeLeon Eskridge carried 26 times for 111 yards in a loss to Penn State Saturday.

Fellow running back Duane Bennett saw just five carries in the game, and over the past three weeks it's clear that Eskridge is the top running back at Minnesota.

Running backs Duane Bennett and DeLeon Eskridge will share the load for Minnesota the rest of the season. "By series they're in the game," coach Tim Brewster said. "If a guy really feels good and is doing a nice job, then he'll get the bulk of the carries probably from that point forward."

It didn't take long for Minnesota to revert back to a split backfield. Neither is a fantasy option at this point.

DeLeon Eskridge, freshman tailback for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, saw his lowest production in terms of rushing numbers today versus Northwestern since being named a starter in the third week of the season against Montana State.

Eskridge has seen a slight drop off in numbers over the last couple of weeks, but still remains one of the Big Ten's hottest options, particularly for owners in keeper leagues.

DeLeon Eskridge continues to impress as a first-year starter at tailback for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, today taking 26 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown on the ground versus Illinois; this makes Eskridge's second game for 2008 in which the freshman has rushed for 100 yards or more in a contest.

It's an interesting transition for the Golden Gophers, as head coach Tim Brewster is taking his team from a spread-pass offense to one much more balanced in its approach in attacking opposing defenses. For the first time since Marion Barber III and Lawrence Maroney roamed the sidelines in Minneapolis, the Golden Gophers are putting together a dangerous run game, with Eskridge the main benefactor. Fantasy owners wise enough to have snatched up the freshman have to be thrilled, while owners of Adam Weber have to be wondering if his pinnacle as a producer has now been reached.
