Purdue head coach Danny Hope announced that starting senior RB Ralph Bolden will miss the Boilermakers opener against Eastern Kentucky.
Bolden is still recovering from an ACL injury he suffered during Purdue's final game of the 2011 season, the third time in five years he had torn the muscle. The senior averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season and accumulated 674 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. Sophomore Akeem Hunt will likely get the nod to start in Bolden's absence. Running back Ralph Bolden arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

This puts a damper what was a nice spring for Bolden, who was working his way back into shape after missing last year's Little Caesars Bowl with a torn right ACL. Coach Danny Hope and the university are handling the matter. An issue like this -- more of needing to grow up than anything -- often results in a suspension for a game or two.

This spring has provided Ralph Bolden with the feeling that he can return to full health for the 2012 season after tearing an ACL.

Bolden tore his right ACL during the Boilermakers’ final regular season game of 2011. It was the second time he tore the ACL since coming to Purdue and the third time since his senior year of high school. He ran for 674 yards and 6 TDs last season and is 1,637/15 for his career.

After tearing the same ACL for a third time late last season, Ralph Bolden is slowly working his way back into shape.

At least Bolden made it to the final regular season game last year before the latest ACL mishap. The second time he tore it took place just prior to the 2010 season, a season he missed in its entirety. Bolden contributed a team-leading 674 yards (4.6 ypc and 6 TDs) to a ground game that ranked 33rd nationally last season. The hope is he and another senior-to-be, Akeem Shavers (519 yards), can stay healthy and improve upon last year’s numbers together.

Purdue running back Ralph Bolden will likely have surgery (still to be determined) to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but coach Danny Hope is hopeful (of course Hope is hopeful) that his star tailback can return.  "He's out for the spring, but we're optimistic about him being ready for the season," Hope said.

If Bolden does return it would be one of quickest turnarounds from ACL surgery in history.  Call us wishful...but highly skeptical.

Purdue running back Ralph Bolden sustained a "significant knee injury" on Wednesday according to coach Danny Hope.

Full details are unknown, but it sounds like Bolden could miss the 2010 season. If that is the case Al-Terek McBurse would become the Boilermakers' starter. McBurse is a highly touted prospect from last year's class.

Gary Nord, offensive coordinator for Purdue, praises running back Ralph Bolden saying, "He's got very good vision, he got a lot better in the blocking part of it, in the protection schemes, and he's got extremely good hands. We move him out and play him at wideout, we put him at the top of the I, and we'll keep him as the I-back"

While breaking in a new quarterback, Bolden could be asked to contribute even more than last year which is a plus for fantasy owners of this electric back.

Purdue running back Ralph Bolden saw just one carry today against Indiana.

Jaycen Taylor carried the ball 20 times for Purdue in a move that likely upset a few playoff rosters.   No explanation has been given yet on why Bolden did not play much.  But he may have pulled a hamstring.

After exploding the first two weeks of the season, Bolden was also held out of the end zone while watching Northern Illinois beat a Big Ten team for just the second time in 35 attempts.

Jaycen Taylor got some nice work in as well, but Bolden really took a step forward here.

ESPN blogger Adam Rittenberg lists Purdue running back Ralph Bolden as one of his top movers and shakers this spring.

Bolden is an interesting fantasy option, especially if Jaycen Taylor is unable to fully recover from a knee injury.

Purdue running back Ralph Bolden ran for an impressive 153 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in the Black and Gold spring game.

Bolden was utilized on special teams and off the bench last season. With Jaycen Taylor returning from a knee injury that kept him out of the 2008 season, we aren't going to get too optimistic about Bolden's chances yet.
