Barrett Trotter will be Auburn's starting quarterback Saturday against Florida.
Noting that not all of the Tigers’ woes on offense the last two weeks can be placed at Trotters’ feet, coach Gene Chizik said Tuesday that he is sticking with the sophomore against Florida on Saturday. Following last week’s loss at South Carolina, Chizik said he would evaluate the position. But he made the right move by not making a move. After all, no other rostered quarterback knows the playbook as well as Trotter. Freshman Kiehl Frazier has been used in the wildcat formation and sophomore Clint Moseley has two career attempts. Junior Barrett Trotter was named Auburn's starting quarterback, which clearly disappointed sophomore Clint Moseley.

Citing the experience factor, Auburn coach Gene Chizik chose Trotter over Moseley to take command of the Tigers’ huddle. Trotter served as the backup to Heisman winner Cam Newton last season and seems to have earned the respect of his teammates. Moseley’s disappointment concerning the decision was evident by his remarks during a news conference. This situation bears watching for a couple of reasons. For one, Trotter’s experience consists of only nine career pass attempts, so things can change. Then there is ballyhooed freshman and No. 3 QB Kiehl Frazier, who was recruited by OC Gus Malzahn. Is a transfer in the offing for Moseley?

Auburn opened up spring practice on Wednesday with multiple starting positions to fill.  The Tigers must replace 15 starters on offense and defense, but none will be watched as closely as the quarterback spot.

Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley will get a jump on the starting spot this spring, with true freshman Kiehl Frazier joining the mix this summer. "They're going to get equal reps with our top group," Malzahn said of Trotter and Moseley. Trotter has the most experience and the more mobile of the two, and I would expect him to exit camp the leader.

Mike Herndon of The Mobile Press Register speculates that Auburn will have quite a heated quarterback battle in 2011, one which will feature Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley vying to replace one-year legend Cam Newton.

It's unreasonable to expect the winner of this battle to post anything close to Newtonian numbers, however this is a system that will allow the victorious signal caller to put up some monster outings against the right opponent.

Auburn backup quarterback Barrett Trotter injured his knee during mopup duty in the game against Louisiana-Monroe, but head coach Gene Chizik called it "a nick and bruise type thing."

If Auburn does lose Trotter they still have a decent option in Neil Caudle.

After tearing his ACL last season, Auburn quarterback Barrett Trotter is 100% healthy heading into spring practice.

Trotter is drastically underrated in the race to become the next Auburn quarterback. Although the job is Cameron Newton's to lose (even if no one will admit it), Trotter is also a mobile quarterback with a strong arm that would fit the mold of this offense.

Auburn quarterback Barrett Trotter suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Thursday's practice.

Trotter appeared to have fallen behind Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle in the quarterback race, the injury will further hinder his progress.
