The Draft Insider's Chris Dougherty reports LSU WR Russell Shepard will visit the Baltimore Ravens on April 4.
The tweet was supported by Shepard, who retweeted it. The former LSU wide receiver had a disappointing college football career but still possesses the talent to become a contributor at the next level. Interestingly enough, there were reports in December that teams asked Shepard about playing cornerback or safety. Thu, Mar 28, 2013 05:00:00 PM

NFL teams have been asking LSU senior WR Russell Shepard if he can play CB or S.

Shepard was expected to step into the top receiver role this season, but instead he was passed by multiple younger options on the depth chart. In fact, he only tallied six receptions for 92 yards while adding 20 carries for 161 yards and a touchdown. Teams will like Shepard's athleticism, so he may fit on a practice squad early on.

LSU receiver Russell Shepard returns to lineup for West Virginia game on Saturday, which should benefit offense and special teams.

The rich get richer. Shepard, who was practicing with the team all along, was scheduled to return Saturday after serving a three-game suspension. A versatile performer, he had 33 receptions and 32 rushing attempts last season, good for 480 yards. He could open things up for QB Jarrett Lee, especially against a quick WVU defense. Shepard could also see some time with the return unit.

LSU receiver Russell Shepard will be eligible to play Sept. 24 against West Virginia following an NCAA-levied three-game suspension.

Shepard’s return can’t come fast enough. The Tigers and QB Jarrett Lee did not accomplish much through the air in the win over Oregon. Major reasons for the lack of production – all of 98 yards - were the absence of Shepard and a leg injury that limited junior Reuben Randle to one reception. That left a cast of freshmen and sophomore wideouts. That should not be a problem against FCS opponent Northwestern State on Saturday, but the Tigers have a short week before traveling to Mississippi next Thursday.

Junior LSU receiver Russell Shepard was ruled ineligible for an unspecified number of games because he violated NCAA bylaws.

When it rains, it pours. As if there was not enough for LSU coach Les Miles to be concerned about, he loses a junior receiver who caught 33 passes last season. That leaves Ruben Randle as the only returning receiver who caught as many as 10 passes last season. Like Shepard, he caught 33 balls. Sophomore Kadron Boone, who caught four passes a year ago, was behind Shepard on the depth chart.
