Georgia senior CB Branden Smith will not be suspended following an offseason arrest for marijuana suspension.
Head coach Mark Richt said that Smith has been cleared to play immediately after the cornerback passed two drug tests this spring. The senior was pulled over in March and police found a bag of marijuana under the seat. Smith and the passenger were arrested. He started seven games last season and made 24 tackles along with two interceptions. Sat, Aug 4, 2012 02:43:00 PM

Georgia coach Mark Richt does not think the foot injury sustained by corner Branden Smith is serious and considers the junior's status day-to-day.

The Bulldogs will need all the experience in the secondary they can get going up against the Kellen Moore-led Boise State offensive machine. Smith, who started nine games last season, is expected to have much more impact in the Dawgs' secondary this season. He is also the team's leading punt returner having averaged 14.3 yards on 10 returns in 2010. Star kick returner Brandon Boykin would also return punts should Smith not be ready to go.
